Phillip “Dooley” Lane

Phillip “Dooley” Lane, of Hustonville, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at Russell County Hospital. He was 68.

Born on January 15, 1952, in Stanford, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Orval and Nannie Gillock Lane. Dooley was a backhoe operator for Lane Construction. He enjoyed building things, mechanics, and fishing. He was a member of Church of the Firstborn.

He is survived by two daughters, Cynthia (Brian) Oney of Russell Springs and Sonya Morgan of Florida; two sons, Phillip (Jamie) Lane and Robert (Melissa) Lane, both of Waynesburg; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Other survivors include three sisters, Sharon (Donald) Elmore of Liberty, Deanna (Brad) Brock of Hustonville, and Charlotte (Kim) Brown of Liberty; and five brothers, Larry (Carol) Lane of Hustonville, Willis Lane of Hustonville, Marvin (Jan) Lane of Hustonville, Roy Lane of Liberty, and Marshall (Tina) Lane of Liberty.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a niece, Nannette Elmore; and a nephew, Billy Lane.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 1, 2020, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Dustin Oney officiating. Burial will follow in Hustonville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 1, 2020, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

Phyllis Ann Stephens Early

Phyllis Ann Stephens Early, of Campbellsville, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2020, at Green Hills Nursing Home in Greensburg, Kentucky. Phyllis was born March 18, 1943, to Curtis and Ora Mae Stephens of Pineville, Kentucky.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph E. Early, Sr., son Joseph E. Early, Jr. and wife Tiffany of Campbellsville, Kentucky, and her sister, Sharon Collett and husband, Rafe of Middlesboro, Kentucky. She has two brothers –in-law, Walter B. Early (deceased) and wife Nora of Hudson, Florida, and Richard H. Early and wife, Francis of Independence, Kentucky. Her nephews and nieces are Brian Early, Richard Early, Daphany Prewitt, Valerie Chabot, April Early, Richard Collett, Angela Gibson, and Rebecca Overholt. Phyllis also has thirteen great-nephews and nieces.

Phyllis loved teaching young people. She taught second grade in Mount Sterling Independent Schools, Mount Sterling, Kentucky; fifth grade in the Knoxville City School system, Knoxville, Tennessee, and seventh, eight, and second grade in the Williamsburg Independent School system from which she retired. She was an active and dedicated member of a local Baptist Church in every community she and her husband lived during their fifty-seven years together.

Visitation will be at Parrott and Ramsey Funeral Home, Campbellsville, Kentucky, from 1 to 4 PM, Saturday, February 1, 2020. Services will be at Main Street Baptist Church in Williamsburg, Kentucky on Monday, February 3, 2020. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with the funeral to follow.
The family requests that in place of flowers donations be made to the Missions Fund at Saloma Baptist Church (Campbellsville, KY), the Building Fund at Campbellsville Baptist Church (Campbellsville, KY), or the Building Fund at Main Street Baptist Church (Williamsburg, KY).

Kenneth N. Ballou

Kenneth N. Ballou, age 94 of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Cumberland Valley Manor . Kenneth was born on June 13, 1925 in Adair County, Kentucky to the late William Murray "Bill" Ballou and Mattie Florence Garrison Ballou.

As a young man Kenneth served in the U.S. Army 47th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Battalion, K Company during World War II where he received the purple heart with one bronze cluster, the distinguished service medal, and the meritorious unit award with one bronze cluster.  After returning home he attended and graduated from the Kentucky School of Embalming in 1948 and was licensed by the board in 1949. He was one of the oldest license holders in the state, receiving his 70 year certificate in 2019. In 1950 he and his wife Stella moved to Burkesville, Kentucky and founded Ballou Funeral Home in Burkesville where he served families for many years.  He was a member of Burkesville First United Methodist Church, VFW Post 5419, American Legion Post 119, Past Master of Cumberland Lodge #413, a former board member of Cumberland County Hospital, Cumberland Valley Manor, Burkesville Cemetery Board, and other numerous organizations. Kenneth loved buying, collecting, and selling antiques and was an avid checker player.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death in by his wife Stella McKinney Ballou, his stepmother, Nola George Ballou, six brothers, Estel Ballou, James E. Ballou, Virgil Ballou, Almon Ballou, Carlos Ballou, Randall Lamarr Ballou, four sisters, Eris Ehling, Faylene McGaha, Lila Wolfe, and Margie Anderson.

Survivors Include:
One Daughter- Beverly Alexander and her husband Tim of Bowling Green, KY
One Son- Anthony Ballou of Burkesville, KY and his fiance' Paula Gee of Tompkinsville, KY
One Brother- Wayne Ballou of Columbia, KY
4 Grandchildren- Jenny Newell, Mary Ballou (Jarrett) Murphy, Jessica (Andy) Roberts, Kenneth Martin (Maggie) Ballou
8 Great Grandchildren- Alexander Newell, Paris Newell, Drew Roberts, Stella Roberts, Griffin Murphy, Bowie Murphy, Cecil Ballou, Ruby Ballou
His brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law- Donald Lee McKinney and his wife Bobbie, Harold Walton McKinney and his wife Carol, and Doris Jean Lane all of Danville, KY and Juanita Scott of Columbia, KY
several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends also survive.

Saturday, February 01, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Burkesville, KY with burial in Burkesville Cemetery.  Family requests visitation on Friday, January 31, 2020 from 3 P.M. until 8 P.M. at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation to the Burkesville Cemetery Fund or Burkesville First United Methodist Church

Alice Lee Pettit Bryant

Alice Lee Pettit Bryant of the Grab Community of Green County, daughter of the late John Pettit and Ella Wooldridge Pettit, was born on Wednesday, February 11, 1953 in Green County and departed this life on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky. She was 66 years, 11 months, and 19 days of age. 

She had made a profession of faith in Christ, was a member of the Old Path Baptist Church and was a homemaker. 

Survived by her husband of 49 years, Clarence Wayne Bryant of the Grab Community, having united in marriage on July 19, 1970. 
Other survivors include a sister: Betty Jean "Jeanie" Moran of Buffalo; and a host of other relatives and friends. 
Mrs. Bryant was also preceded in death by four sisters and one brother: Wanda Lou Whitlow, Brenda Sue Helm, Willie Frances Pettit, Fredia Ann Kingrey, and J. W. Pettit. 

The funeral services for Alice Lee Pettit Bryant will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Central Time, Saturday, February 1, 2010 at the Old Path Baptist Church with burial to follow in the New Salem Cemetery. Bro. Mickey Pruitt and Bro. Adam Pruitt officiating. 
Visitation is requested after 9:30 A.M., Central Time, Saturday at the Old Path Baptist Church until time of the funeral service.

She was born May 28, 1964, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to the late George W. and Joan Roberts Austin.

Reba Maxine Higginbotham, 87, of Jamestown, died Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at the Fair Oaks Nursing Home in Jamestown. She was born October 3, 1932 in Russell County to the late Hobert & Hattie Bunch Shearer.

She was a member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred L. Higginbotham; 2 brothers, Ralph Shearer and Douglas Shearer

Glen Flippo, 64, of Columbia, died suddenly Monday, January 27, 2020 in Lake City, Florida. 
He was born November 4, 1955 in Owens Crossroads, Alabama. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Flippo, one daughter, Jenny Turner, and two grandchildren.  Glen was a truck driver and currently employed by Rogers Trucking Company in Columbia.

Constance Suzanne "Suzi" Paxton

Constance Suzanne "Suzi" Paxton of Green County, Kentucky, daughter of the late Luther Welby Giltner, and Marjorie Louise Thornton Giltner Wooley, was born on Friday, September 30, 1949 in Madison, Indiana and departed this life on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at her home. She was 70 years, 3 months, and 29 days of age. 

She had made a profession of faith in Christ, was a member of the Greensburg United Methodist Church, was a retired machinist after 40 years with Batesville Casket Company, and was a cosmetologist.  

She united in marriage to Norman Wayne Paxton on March 26, 1983 who preceded her in death o August 24, 2012. 
Survivors include two step-children: Brad Paxton of Georgetown, Anne Vinson of Scottsville; two special nieces: Jacy Warrell and her husband, Chris of Tennessee, and Samantha Stenger of Hawaii; a brother: Luther W. Giltner, Jr. of Indiana; and a host of other relatives and friends. 

Mrs. Paxton was also preceded in death by five sisters and a brother: Gwendolyn Brinson, Jennifer Wooley, Linda Wooley, Bonita Geyman, Bridgette Corbin, and Michael Giltner. 

Mrs. Paxton chose cremation. No formal services at this time. Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg, in charge of the arrangements.

Gary Dean Milby

Gary Dean Milby of Campbellsville was born on July 28, 1957 to Holland Milby and the late Norman Faye (Collins) Pike. He departed this life on Sunday, January 27, 2020 at his home after a battle with cancer. He was 62 years, 5 months, and 29 days of age. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was Campbellsville Baptist Temple. Mr. Milby was a truck driver, driving as long as his health allowed. He drove most recently for WalMart for 7 years, and had pulled for Super Service for 24 years prior to that. He loved listening to music of all genres, watching races (even driving some as a younger man), but was most passionate about the relationships he built with his family and friends.

He leaves to cherish his memory:
   His wife: Marcia (Thompson) Milby,
   His father and stepmother: Holland and Patty (Brown) Milby,
   Two children: Adam Milby and fiance Sally, and Karen Campbell and husband William,
   Three sisters: Sharon Mills and husband Jeff, Shirley Smith and husband Phillip, and Stephanie Vanmeter and husband James,
   One beloved granddaughter: Savannah Milby,
   And a host of other family and friends.

   He was also preceded in death by three siblings: Cecile Wood, Sharon Wood, and Larry Collins.

   There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Milby on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Rd, Campbellsville, KY. Bro. Jason Keltner will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Campbellsville Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
   The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 29, from 5:00-8:00 PM.
