Bruce M. Crawhorn, 88 of Chicago, IL, formerly of Adair County, died March 31, 2022, at his home.

He was born October 24, 1933, in Adair County, to the late Joe Robert and Lou Bell Coomer Crawhorn. He attended First Baptist Church of Burbank, a retired welder and steel worker and a US Army Veteran.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Eva Crawhorn, Zilpha Coomer, and Lovie Montgomery and two brothers, Joe Crawhorn and Earl Crawhorn.


Survivors include:
His wife – Emelinda Formentera Crawhorn of Chicago, IL
Two sons – Warren Crawhorn (Ann) of Gradyville, KY and John Lee Crawhorn of Chicago, IL
Four daughters – Freda Scott (Harry) of Campbellsville, KY, Linda Dubberke  (Jim) of Fox Lake, IL, Christine Crawhorn and Michelle Crawhorn both of Chicago, IL
Ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren

Funeral service – Sunday, April 10, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home with Bro. Darrell Landis officiating
Burial in Columbia Cemetery with full military honors presented by VFW Post 6097

Gregory Lee "Greg" Dicken, age 59 of Woodburn, Kentucky formerly of Burkesville, KY passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Hopkins Nursing and Care Center. Greg was born on November 24, 1963 in Clinton County, KY  to the late John L. Dicken and Anna Jewell Rush Dicken.

​In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Ricky Dicken.


Survivors Include:
One Brother- Rex Dicken of New Castle, IN
One Sister- Sheila Rouse of Tennessee
and a host of other relatives and friends


Graveside Service:
Monday, April 04, 2022 at 10 A.M. at Modoc Cemetery in Cumberland County, KY. There will be no visitation at the funeral home

Donald Bell Sweeney 1949-2022

Donald Bell Sweeney, of Liberty, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2022, in Lexington, KY. He was 72.

Born July 10, 1949, in Louisville, KY, he was a son of the late Dr. Garnett Jones Sweeney, Sr. and Virginia Bell Sweeney. Don is co-owner of First Choice Auctions. He is the former co-owner of United Country Realty in Liberty. Don was always active in his community. He was a former board member for the Casey County School Board and the Ag/Expo Center. He was active in starting the Casey County Heritage Days. Don was a former president of Hickory Hills Country Club. He was a former Little League baseball and basketball coach. Don was a member of the First Christian Church in Liberty.  

Survivors include his sons, Clay (and Jerusha) Sweeney of Hustonville and Ben (and Tawney) Sweeney of Louisville; brother, Dr. G.J. (and Shelley) Sweeney, Jr. of Lexington; sister, Barbara Sue (and Larry) Griffin of Liberty; 3 grandchildren, Justin, Connor, and Tori; and the mother of his children, Pam Sweeney of Danville.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, April 4, 2022, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00AM until 2:00PM on Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions in Don’s memory are suggested to the Casey County Board of Education, 1922 N. US 127, Liberty, KY 42539 or to the Casey County Hospital, 187 Wolford Avenue, Liberty, KY 42539.

Clayton Timothy “Tim” Compton

Clayton Timothy “Tim” Compton, 65, of Columbia, KY died Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at his residence.  He was born on July 20, 1956 in San Antonio, TX to the late Clayton Howard and Virginia Eileen Coleman Compton. 

Tim attended the Sparksville Baptist Church, retired from SKF Industries and was a veteran of the U. S. Army.  He was a former Sparksville Little League coach and enjoyed hunting, fishing, University of Kentucky basketball and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Victoria Buchanan Compton of Columbia, KY; two daughters Candice Robertson (Todd) and Crystal Kingrey (Jonathan) both of Columbia, KY; six grandchildren Abagail Robertson Fleming (Ethan), Riley Robertson, Annabelle Robertson, Benjamin Kingrey, Beckham Kingrey and Beatrice Kingrey; a great granddaughter Evelyn Fleming; two brothers Mark Compton (Debbie) of Edmonton, KY and Daniel Compton (Mary) of Lacy Lakeview, TX and a special friend and cousin Ernie Wagoner of Glasgow, KY.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Sparksville Baptist Church with military honors provided by VFW Post 6097 and cremation to follow the services.  Interment of the cremains will be held at a later date at the Moore Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00-8:00pm at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home and will continue on Saturday from 9:00am-11:00am at Sparksville Baptist Church.

Bro. Darrell Landis will be officiating and honorary pallbearers will be Todd Robertson, Jonathon Kingrey, Benjamin Kingrey, Ernie Wagoner, Beckham Kingrey, Nathan Compton and Riley Robertson.

Dwight Leon Sooter

Dwight Leon Sooter, age 74, of Lebanon, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Spring View Hospital. He was born on October 27, 1947 in Muleshoe, Texas to the late Joe Sooter and Lorene Sooter Burgett.

Dwight retired after 25 years from the USDA where he was a safety inspection officer. He had a deep and personal relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and has been a faithful member of Lebanon United Methodist Church since December 1987. Dwight, a true servant, served in many capacities including Co-Volunteer leader of the youth group, Sunday School teacher, VBS Teacher and helper and served on or chaired several committees. Over the years he has prepared many meals for the Methodist Men and the Annual Legislative Prayer Breakfast. He has served on Emmaus Walks in the Campbellsville and Elizabethtown Emmaus Communities. Most recently, he served an integral part in establishing the church security team that he loved being a part of. He was also a member of the Gideons and was a Kentucky Colonel. He loved the outdoors, competition and target shooting, hiking, kayaking and riding his motorcycle. Because he believed all creation is important, Dwight had a love and compassion for people and animals that is rarely seen in today’s world. His love, compassion and humor will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Nathan Sooter; sister, Nicki Wilcoxson.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, June Sooter of Lebanon, KY; three sons, Shane (Cassie) Sooter of Taylorsville, KY, Jeremy (Karen) Sooter of Gilbert, SC, Josh (Khryss) Sooter of Louisville, KY; two brothers, Roy Sooter of Arlington, TX, Tim (Lana) Sooter of Evergreen, CO.
Also surviving are fifteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other family, very close friends and his fur babies.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Sunday, April 03, 2022 at Bosley Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, April 04, 2022 at Lebanon United Methodist Church, 236 North Spalding Avenue, Lebanon, KY 40033, officiated by Rev. Troy Elmore and Rev. Neal Gordon. Interment will follow in Holy Name of Mary Cemetery. Visitation will also be held at Lebanon United Methodist Church from 11:00 A.M. until time of service on Monday, April 04, 2022.

​Teresa Lynn Cooper, 61, of Columbia, KY died Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at her residence.  She was born on August 1, 1960 in Glasgow, KY to the late Charles and Linda Darnell Cooper.  
 
Teresa was of the Christian faith and enjoyed the simple things in life from yard sales to driving the country side visiting cemeteries.  She also enjoyed playing lottery tickets and spending time with her family and friends.
 
Survivors include her daughter Kaitlyn Cooper (Bradley Cline) of Louisville, KY; a sister Deanna Cooper of Columbia, KY; aunts and uncles Phyllis Curry (Clifton), Beanie Green (Walter), Donita Hortillosa (Dr. Lew) , Mitzi Loy and Jobe Darnell; nieces and nephews Jennifer Thomas, Kristina Cooper, Leanna Corbin, Lori Cooper, Phillip Cooper and Billy Salmon.
 
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Phillip Cooper, grandparents Orbra and Euna Darnell and Yank and Alline Loy and three aunts Becky Loy, Peggy Page and Joann Darnell.
 
Funeral services will be 12:00pm Friday, April 1, 2022 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the McClister Cemetery.  Visitation will be after 9:00am Friday at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.
 
Bro. Darrell Landis will be officiating and pallbearers will be Rickey Kerns, Billy Salmon, Phillip Cooper, Jr. Murphy, Floyd Green and Bo Murphy.
 
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the funeral home to assist Kaitlyn with the funeral expenses.

Mary Lyndel Harris Murrell

Mary Lyndel Harris Murrell, 90, of Middlesboro, KY passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY.  She was born on August 31, 1931 in Louisville, KY to the late Joseph Maynor Harris and Addie Maude Wallace Harris.  She married John Hicks Murrell on August 14, 1955 who preceded her in death.
 
Lyndel was a caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Middlesboro, KY and a beloved grade school teacher.  She had a passion for storytelling and wrote many tales about her family, friends and childhood memories growing up in Middlesboro, KY.
 
She is survived by one son John Joseph “Joe” Murrell and three grandchildren Elise Lyndel Murrell, Charlotte Renee Murrell and Thomas Joseph Murrell.
 
Funeral services will be 3:00pm Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Columbia Cemetery.  Visitation will begin at 1:00pm Saturday at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Barbara S. Morris Gordon, of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Wilson Errett Morris and Ruby Evaline Benningfield Morris, was born August 3, 1939 in Taylor County, Kentucky.  She died at 4:54 A.M., Tuesday, March 29, 2022 in Campbellsville.  

Age: 82

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church.  

Barbara was a retired clerk with Wal Mart.

She united in marriage to Kenneth Joe Gordon and he preceded her in death.

She loved long drives in the country, jewelry of all kinds and her animals.

She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by one son and two daughters:  Kenny Gordon and wife, Patty and Tammy Hess and husband, Steve of Campbellsville and Dawn Flinchum and husband, Steve of Elk Horn; seven grandchildren:  Andrea Flinchum of Nashville, Sawyer Flinchum and fiancee’, Erin Steele of Campbellsville, Adam Gordon and wife, Lindsey of Hodgenville, Erika Adams and husband, Cody of Campbellsville, Janson Hughes and wife, Leigh Ann of Hodgenville, Devin Hughes and wife, Amber of Campbellsville and Brandon Hess and wife, Andrea of Campbellsville; thirteen great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Marie Smiley Stephens

Marie Stephens, 101 years old, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Marie was born on March 26, 1921 in Adair County, Kentucky a daughter of the late Oscar and Laura Alley Smiley. Marie was also preceded in death by her husband, C.C. Stephens in 2001.

In her spare time, Marie enjoyed spending time with her family, going to garage sales, gardening and playing Bingo. 

Marie is survived by three children: J.C. Stephens, Charlotte (Bob) Streib and Shelly Stephens. Three grandchildren: Ronnie Denham, Tammy Kitterman and Shelby Moore, several great and great-great-grandchildren. Along with several nieces and nephews, one sister Jean Quinn of Columbia, KY and two brothers Bobby Smiley of Indiana and Phillip Smiley (Brenda) of Campbellsville, KY. 

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sisters Mable Smiley Burton and Doris Smiley, two brothers Demaree and Eldred Smiley and a grandson Scotty Stephens.

I am not truly gone, if you keep me in your heart. I’ll forever be alive, and we’ll never have to part. Light shines from my soul, embraces your weeping heart. Love lasts forever.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Jessen & Keller Funeral Home, 729 N US Hwy 31, Whiteland, IN with a service beginning at 1:00 PM also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, IN.

Judy S. Benningfield, of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Gilbert Shively and Exie Wise Shively, was born March 16, 1947 in Marion County, Kentucky.  She died at 2:34 A.M., Tuesday, March 29, 2022 in Campbellsville.   Age:  75

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church.  

Judy was a retired loan processor with Citizens Bank and Trust Company.  She was also a former secretary with the Marion County Attorney’s office for twenty-five years.

She enjoyed gardening and writing in her journals.

She united in marriage to Carroll Benningfield March 25, 1967 and he preceded her in death December 21, 2016.

Judy is survived by one son and one daughter: Kelly Carney and husband, Mark of Campbellsville and Keith Benningfield of Louisville; four grandchildren:  Kaitlyn Green and husband, Ricky, Drew Benningfield and fiancée’, Danielle Sublett, Mackenzie Carney and fiancée’, Grant McQueary and Shelby Hinton and husband, Jordan of Campbellsville; two great-grandchildren:  Fletcher Green and Hadleigh Hinton; two sisters:  Barbara Jean Benningfield and husband, Edward “Boss” of Campbellsville and Mary Frances Veatch and husband, David of St. Joe; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Paul Shively.
