Stephen Jay Crye of Lexington, son of the late Kenneth Crye and Jeannette Wright Crye, was born June 5, 1958 in Richmond, Indiana.  He died at 11:04 A.M., Thursday, August 29, 2019 in Lexington.    Age: 61

He professed faith in Christ and was of the Baptist faith.

Stephen served his country honorably in the United States Air Force.

He was an employee of the Physical Plant at the University of Kentucky as a supervisor for the custodial team and previously worked as a jeweler in California. Stephen was an avid UK fan who loved his grandchildren and his animals.

He united in marriage to Amanda Sublett on September 5, 2015.  

Besides his wife, Amanda Sublett Crye of Lexington, he is survived by a daughter, Brandi O’Neil and husband, Bill of Glendale, Arizona; a step-daughter, Michelle Studebaker of Glendale, California; one granddaughter, Riley Carter O’Neil of Glendale, Arizona; one step-granddaughter, Savannah Studebaker of Glendale, California; one brother, Jim Crye and wife, Charlotte of Clay City, Kentucky; one nephew, Johnathan White of Columbus, Ohio; father-in-law, Leonard Sublett and wife, Corrine of Campbellsville; brother-in-law, Neil Sublett and wife, Amanda of Campbellsville; and many other relatives and friends.

Remona Whittle Popplewell, 82, of Russell Springs, died Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset. She was born January 27, 1937 in Russell County to the late Elvis Earl & Ada West Tucker.

Remona was a homemaker and a member of Pine Grove Separate Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by  her husbands, Hollis "I.U." Whittle, Grant Popplewell; 6 brothers, Arvester Mose Tucker, Sylvester Tilburn Tucker, Lester B. Tucker,

Violetta Maxine Buis Roy, of Liberty, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at Casey County Hospital.  She was 97 years of age.

Born on October 30, 1921, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late John Arvil and Mary Ellen Gilpin Buis. Maxine was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Valley Oak Baptist Church. She retired from the Casey County School System after 31.56 years of being an English teacher.

Survivors include one son, Larry Roy of Liberty; one granddaughter, Tracie (Keith) Emerson of Windsor; two great-grandchildren, Morgan Brooke Emerson and Macie Elizabeth Emerson; and several other loving family members.

In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Luther Roy, who passed away on March 12, 1987; and one brother, Huel (Lois) Buis.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 31, 2019, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Chuck Woodcock officiating. Burial will follow at Rich Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 31, 2019, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to the Valley Oak Baptist Church c/o Mary Lou Carman at 217 Oak Hill Road Bethelridge, Kentucky 42516.

Kennith L. Stephens, 87, of Russell Springs, died Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at the Russell County Hospital. He was born October 10, 1931 in Russell County to the late Ottis & Ruth
Bennett Stephens.

Kennith was a insurance agent, a member of Russell Springs Christian Church and a Veteran of US Navy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Wilma Dean Burdeshaw, Joyce Faye Camilleri; 1 brother, Gradith Stephens

Mr. Vernon Ray “Pete” Carter

Mr. Vernon Ray “Pete” Carter of Campbellsville was born on July 23, 1936 to the late James and Edna (Pritchard) Carter. He departed this life on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at the Taylor Regional Hospital, being 83 years, 1 month, and 5 days of age. He was a retiree of Greensburg Manufacturing. He married Carolyn Gowen, who preceded him in death. Later he married Mildred Davis, who also preceded him.

   Mr. Carter enjoyed retirement and was often quoted as “piddling”. He enjoyed tinkering around on his lawnmower and keeping his yard tidy, or just relaxing in front of the TV.

He leaves to mourn his passing:
   Three children: Kenneth Carter, Pat Roution and husband Michael, and Betty Hoosier, all of Campbellsville,
   Fifteen grandchildren,
   A host of great-grandchildren,
   One great-great grandchild,
   A special friend: Ronnie Van Heck of Campbellsville,
   And several other family and close friends.

   He was also preceded in death by two siblings, Doyle Carter and Lindsey Carter.

   There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Carter on Friday, August 30, 2019 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Rd, Campbellsville, KY. Burial will follow in the Campbellsville Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
   The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, Aug. 30, from 10:00 AM until time for the service.

Sis. Vernice Robinson

Thursday night August 22, 2019 God came and saw that Sis. Vernice Robinson was suffering and he said, “you have been through enough”. It’s time for you to come home. He wrapped his loving arms around her and took her home.

She was born July 17, 1941 to the late James and Birdie Embry. She had obtained the age of 78 years, 1 month and 5 days old.

Vernice was a member of the Mt. Union Baptist Church and remained faithful in attendance until her health didn’t allow her to attend. She was married to Johnnie Robinson who preceded her in death.

Vernice loved her family and church. She loved to cook and was famous for her three- and four-layer cakes. She loved to cut up and make people laugh with her contagious smile and big personality, however she also knew how to get her point across when she needed too. She loved children and loved to spoil them.

She is survived by two daughters and one son: Julita Johnson of Louisville, Debora Golder of Cincinnati, Ohio and Alan Golder of Louisville, two grandchildren, four great grandchildren, three sisters: Odessa Ford of Campbellsville, Henrietta Clark of Lawton, Oklahoma and Lorene Smith of Campbellsville, host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Besides her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a sister: Nancy Owens; brother William Lewis Richardson, grandchildren: Barry Golder, Shalita Golder and De’Vonte Golder.

​Prenith Burton, 86, of Glasgow, died Sunday, August 25, 2019 at T. J. Samson Community Hospital.  Born in Adair County, he was the son of the late Johnny Burton and Delia McQueary Burton.  Mr. Burton was a pipe fitter for 40 years with Louisville Gas and Electric retiring in 1991.  He attended the Glasgow First Church of God.
 
He is survived by his wife, Delores Perkins Burton; 2 sons, Mike Burton (Freda) of Mt. Washington and Ricky Burton (Cathy) of Louisville; 2 daughters, Debbie Kayrouz (Gary) and Brenda Shirk (Loren) of Louisville; a step-daughter, Deborah Shackleford (Jim) of Lexington; 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, John Philip Burton of Columbia; 4 sisters, Katherine Burton of Columbia, Marjorie McKenzie of Louisville, Barbara Churchill of California and Georgia Mings of Campbellsville.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Thelbert Burton and a sister, Betty Sneed.  
 
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 28th at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until time for the service.

Alicia Leann Warf age 64 of Edmonton died Saturday August 24, 2019 at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow.  She was the daughter of the late Herbert and Dora Ann Muse Anderson. 

Leann was a homemaker and a member of the Edmonton Baptist Church and also attended Crossland Community Church.  

She is survived by her husband Glen Warf of Edmonton, four children Richard (Leissa) Zimmerman of Monticello, Renee (Jason) Blakley of Glasgow, Brandon (Kasey) Warf of Edmonton, and Will (Tara) Warf of Piney Flats, TN.  Seven grandchildren Luke Manning, Luna Warf, Braedon Zimmerman, Maddie Zimmerman, Joseph Zimmerman, Chris Blakley, and Katie Blakley. 

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by one brother Muse Anderson. 

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at the Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in the New Liberty Cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Metcalfe County Animal Shelter or the Metcalfe County Library.

Roy Eugene Simpson, of Moreland, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2019, in Danville. He was 53.
Born December 20, 1965, in Glasgow, KY, he was a son of the late Coy Downs and Gardenia Bates Downs. He was a self-employed auto mechanic. Roy enjoyed fishing, hunting, and ginseng hunting. He was a loving father, grandfather, and peanut butter lover.

Survivors include his daughter, Dianna (and Josh) Goode of Stanford; brothers, Phillip (and Dana) Simpson of Stanford and Frank (and Kristie) Downs of Washington; sister, Dianna (Kenneth) Reynolds of Junction City; and 2 grandchildren, Heather and Dakota Goode.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Ernie, Wayne, and Greg Downs and sisters, Gloria Simpson and Pamela Cook.

There will be a visitation from 5-8PM on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. There will be no service. Cremation rites will be honored following visitation.

Killis Emerson

Killis Emerson, of Liberty, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2019, at his home.  He was 88 years of age.

Born on October 20, 1930, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late George and Levona Luttrell Emerson. Killis was a farmer and a member of South Fork Separate Baptist Church, where he also served as a deacon. He loved his horses, mules, and going on trail rides.

Survivors include one son, Russell (Peggi) Emerson of New Richmond, Ohio; two daughters, Wanda (Bill) Whited and Kathie (Donnie) Poff, both of Liberty; two brothers, Archie (Linda) Emerson of Providence, Rhode Island and Jesse (Teresa) Emerson of Flat Rock, Indiana; one sister, Sally Byrd of Liberty; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, Killis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Hopper Emerson, who passed away on November 6, 2018; three brothers, Leroy Emerson, Lafon Emerson, and Russell Emerson; and two sisters, Ila Tarter and Alpha Ramey.

Funeral services are 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Brother Troy Coffey officiating.  Burial will follow in South Fork Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.
Bill Whited, Donnie Poff, Greg Lawhorn, Brylee Emerson, Jodie Hatter, and Mike Simpson will serve as Killis’ pallbearers.
