Petra Ferguson, age 71, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Sunday, April 30 2023 at Fairoaks Health Care in Jamestown after a long illness.

She was born on Saturday, September 29 1951, in Eschwege, Germany.

She was the daughter of the late Karl Gustav Wilhelm Kontowski and  Elfriede Jung Kontowski

She is survived by:

Heide Bloyd, of Russell Springs KY
Uta Berger, spouse Manfred, of Mainz, Germany
She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. She enjoyed making quilts and giving them away.

The family chose cremation and no services will be held.

Vivian June “Junebug” Snow Hardwick, of Liberty, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. She was 74.
​
Born on August 27, 1948, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Fred Childress and Velma Lee Richards Snow. June was a seamstress. She enjoyed cooking, singing, sewing, flowers, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. June attended Poplar Springs Baptist Church and Dunnville Christian Church. She had a strong profession of faith and she trusted Christ.

She is survived by two sons, Joseph (Bobbie) Hardwick and Marc (Regina) Hardwick, both of Russell Springs; a daughter, Dinah (Mickey) Rooks of Columbia; a stepdaughter, Delania (William) Luttrell of Dunnville; six grandchildren, Katie, Maggie, Zoe, Brylie, Morgan, and C.J.; specially cherished family members, Chris and Felicia Hickson and their five children; and a sister, Bernice Griffin of Jacktown.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Earlin Hardwick, who passed away on June 26, 2017; and two sisters, Violet Coffman and Marie Singleton.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at South Fork Cemetery with Bro. Johnny Maupin & Bro. Derick Terry officiating.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Clements, Ryan Clements, Brian McQueary, Dave Delong, Brandon Richardson, and Mickey Rooks.

Janice Rice of Campbellsville, daughter of the late James French and Martha Evans Sherman French, was born July 19, 1946 in Jefferson County, Kentucky.  She died at 7:20 A.M., Sunday, April 30, 2023 in Campbellsville.   Age: 76

She professed her faith in Christ and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

Janice united in marriage to James S. Rice September 29, 1973.

She loved to work in her flowers and enjoyed painting pictures.

Besides her husband, James S. Rice of Campbellsville, she is survived by one son, James E. Rice of Campbellsville and one sister, Patricia Burdin of Lafayette, Indiana; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers: Joe French, Sr., and Roger French.

Alene Abell Wolford 1923-2023

Alene Abell Wolford, born April 6, 1923 in Adair County, Kentucky, passed away April 29, 2023 in Louisville, Kentucky surrounded by loved ones.  She was 100 years young. 
​
Daughter of the late Joseph C. and Mary Elizabeth Abell of Casey Creek, Kentucky.  She married the love of her life, Malcolm A. Wolford, May 30, 1941 who preceded her in death.  They had four loving daughters Betty Porter (Chester), Jennie Polsgrove (Danny), Sandra Williams (Philip), and Kathie Wolford.  She was blessed with ten grandchildren Lee (Max), Jennifer (Keith), Jack (Lora), Scott (Kim), Erin (Mike), Elizabeth (Eric), Joseph (Laura), Katherine (Russell), Jessica Alene (Adam), and John Malcom (Jaclyn).  And further blessed with twenty-one great grandchildren Alex, Jack Chester, Taylor, Peyton (Caitlin), Casey, Isabella, Noah, Samuel, Wick, Jackson, Gabe, Will, Joseph, Libbie, PK, Eliza, Kendall, Caleb, Henry, Marianne, and Mollie. 
​
Alene shared the love and peace of a family who founded her love, faith, and life in the Lord.  She did everything with love to perfection especially her cooking, canning, and sewing. 

A visitation will be held Monday May 1, 2023 from 1-3 pm at McFarland -Troutman- Proffitt Funeral Home, 111 N Bardstown Rd Mt. Washington, KY, with a funeral to follow at 3 pm.  Burial will take place at 5:30 p.m. following the funeral at the Casey County Memorial Gardens, all are welcome to attend.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Camp Rise Above at PO Box 31295 Charleston, South Carolina 29417.

Randall Eugene Cox, 70, of Campbellsville, Kentucky, son of the late Obi Millard Cox and Stella Mae Cox, was born October 23rd, 1952, in Campbellsville, Kentucky, and departed this life on Saturday, April 29th, 2023, in Campbellsville, Kentucky.

Randall was united in marriage to Cary Elaine Tucker on September 27th, 1975. She survives.

Randall was an avid fan, whether watching NASCAR or attending.

He professed faith in Christ and was of the Baptist faith.

Besides his wife, he is survived by:
Four daughters and three sons: Christy Brady and husband, Emanuel, of Lebanon; Rhonda Humphrey and significant other, Artie Sanders of Campbellsville; Jamie Mann and husband, Kevin, of Mannsville; Gregory Millard Cox and wife, Diane, of Campbellsville; Jason Cox and wife, Ashley, of Campbellsville; Damon Cox and wife, Angela, of Campbellsville; and Laura Wingler of Summersville
Fifteen grandchildren: Kimberly Bueter and husband, Shane, of Kansas; Hannah Sherell and husband, Bradley, of Liberty; Kyle Humphrey of Liberty; Kaylee Mann of Mannsville; Kyndra Mann of Mannsville; Taylor Blake Cox; Cameron Bryce Cox; Jordann Cox; Connor Ross Cox; Randall Austin Cox; Cody Blake Cox; Chloe Cox; Ethan Michael Cox all of Campbellsville; Gracie Wingler; and Levi Wingler, both of Summersville.
Seven great grandchildren

Braxton Glen Foley, of Liberty, gained his super hero wings at 9:28PM on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at UK Hospital in Lexington, KY. He was 13 years, 3 months, and 8 days young.

 Born Thursday, January 21, 2010, in Lexington, KY, he is the son of Phillip Jason Foley and Sherrie Johnson Foley. Braxton loved the beach, his iPad, his money, fishing, and Paw Patrol. He was a proud Junior Kentucky Colonel.

  Survivors include his parents, Jason and Sherrie Foley of Liberty; sisters, Abby and Bella Foley, both of Liberty; paternal grandparents, Phillip and Sharon Foley of Liberty; maternal grandfather, Glen (and wife, Sharon) Johnson of Inez, KY; aunts and uncles, Matt and Tiffany Foley, Jessica and Nelson Grubbs, and Megan McClure; and a host of other family members and friends also survive.

  Braxton was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Sherrie Johnson.

  Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Brown officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8PM on Monday at the funeral home.

Myrtle Emily Guffey, age 85 of Russell Springs, died Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Russell County Hospital.

She was born in Jamestown, Kentucky on December 11, 1937 the daughter of the late William Stanley and Rittie Dykes Guffey.

She was a retired nurse, a Jehovah’s Witness, interior decorator and instrumental in establishing the Children’s Advocacy Center in Jamestown.

She is survived by 5 sons:
Michael Dale Ford (Mary), Russell Springs, KY.
Peter Lynn Ford (Edith), Russell Springs, KY.
Matthew Wayne Ford, Russell Springs, KY.
John William Ford (Lila), Columbia, KY.
Mark Edward Ford (Shelia), Columbia, KY.
2 Daughters:
Jennifer Karen Humble (Eric), Russell Springs, KY.
Courtenay Marcine Brown (Tim), Russell Springs, KY.
She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren also survive, Five Brothers: Bennie Guffey (Dovie) of Ala, Bob Guffey, Rick Guffey (Mary), both of Louisville, Ky. Daryl Guffey (Alisa) of Tn., Jimmy Guffey (Donna) of Russell Springs, Ky.  2 sisters: Doris Hilbert (Jack) of Ca. and Virginia Mena of Tn. and sister in law Marianne Guffey of New York. 
​She is also survived by her nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mindy Roxanne Curry and one grandchild, Bethany Claire Ford, three brothers, Billy Guffey, Jr., Arlis MacArthur Guffey and Ranson Earl Guffey and one sister Hadus Geraldine Guffey. 

Funeral services will be on Saturday, May 6th at 12 Noon at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, visitation will be after 10 AM on Saturday, May 6th at Wilson Funeral Home in Russell Springs.

Brenda Sue Young Hollins 1966-2023

Brenda Sue Young Hollins of Campbellsville, Kentucky, daughter of the late Truman Young and Agnes Smith Young, was born on Friday, May 27, 1966 in Greensburg, Kentucky and passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at the Taylor Regional Hospital. She was 56 years, 11 months, and 2 days of age.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ, was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was a homemaker.

Survived by her husband of 34 years, Timothy E. Hollins of Campbellsville having united in marriage on November 21, 1988.
Other survivors include four daughters and two sons-in-law: Bridgette Young of Campbellsville, Alexis and Edward Parsley of Campbellsville, Felicia and Timothy Blair of Sulphur Well, Daniele Hollins of Campbellsville; two sons: Timothy A. Hollins of Louisville and Samuel Hollins of Campbellsville; seven grandchildren: Anthony Lawson, Eddie Parsley II, Brantley Hollins, Jayden Creason, Raelynn Parsley, Jaelynn Hollins, and Alexander Hollins; two sisters: Bonnie Cowan of Columbia and Becky Campbell of Greensburg; four brothers; Mike Young of Summersville, Randy Young of Greensburg, Terry Young, and Jeff Young both of Green County; and a host of other relatives and friends.
​
Besides her parents, Mrs. Hollins was also preceded in death by a grandson: Braydon Parsley; and a brother: Jerry Young.

Graveside services for Brenda Sue Young Hollins will be conducted at 12:00, Noon, Central Time, Friday, May 5, 2023 at the Bishop-Curry Cemetery. Bro. Dave Evans officiating. Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, Greensburg in charge of the arrangements

Eva Rae Gaskin Russell 1937-2023

Eva Rae Gaskin Russell, age 86, of Russell Springs, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at her Russell Drive home, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Russell was born on January 18, 1937, in Russell County, to Lilbert Edvert and Sarah Cathern Gadberry Gaskin.

She and Henry Clay Russell, Jr., were united in marriage on February 23, 1952, in Russell Springs. They were married until his death, April 9, 1996. To this union two children were born, Vanessa Pearl and Michelle Doneic’.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by a grandson, Seneca Bradford Conover and three siblings, Lucy Myrtle Wilson, Edvert Glen Gaskin, and Oscar V. Gaskin.
​
Mrs. Russell is survived by her daughters, Vanessa Conover of Russell Springs, and Michelle Barger, and her husband, Terry of Somerset. She is also survived by two grandsons, Damion Anderson, of Russell Springs and Eric Lawson of Portland, Oregon. Three granddaughters survive, Deven Conover and her husband, Jeremy Norris, of Russell Springs, Desiree’ Marrs, and her husband, Jimmy Marrs of Mt. Vernon, Ill., and Sarah Cahill of Nashville, Tenn. Seven great-grandchildren survive, Hannah Anderson (Jared Harrell) of Somerset, Austin Anderson and Emma Anderson of Russell Springs, and Meghan Marrs, Emily Marrs, Ava Marrs and Sophia Marrs, all of Mt. Vernon, Ill. One great-great granddaughter, Tinsley Jo Harrell, also survives. Mrs. Russell is also survived by one sister, Vonnie Mae Shepherd of Bloomington, Ind., and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Russell was affectionately known as “Granny Eva”. She loved her children and grandchildren. She delighted in cooking for them. She enjoyed canning and freezing the large gardens that her husband Junior grew. She also loved flowers. Her favorites were peonies, gardenias, calla lilies and roses. Granny Eva loved to work outside.
​
Mrs. Russell was an avid reader, loving Southern writers, including the works of Janice Holt Giles, Harriet Arnow, Jessie Stuart, and others. She loved classic and contemporary authors, Dickinson, Bronte, Whitman, and others. She loved all types of music, classical, country and rock. She also enjoyed the richness of history and followed national politics closely, which she did not mind debating. An avid UK Men’s Basketball fan, she loved the Kentucky Wildcats.

Mrs. Russell was employed at Russell Sportswear, before a career at Union Underwear, later Fruit of the Loom, where she was a sew-pocket. After her retirement, after 33-years, she was employed at Amazon for an additional 15 years. A graduate of Campbellsville Beauty College she also worked as a hairdresser for several years. After retirement, she attended the Russell County Vocational School, completing a course as an Electrician’s assistant.

Mrs. Russell attended the Clear Springs Church and Main Street Church of God, where she served as a Children’s Sunday School teacher. After marriage, she and her family were members of the Russell Springs First United Methodist Church.

Funeral services for Mrs. Russell will be conducted by Bernard Funeral Home in Russell Springs, on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at 2 p.m., with Leonard Pierce, officiating.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 2, 2023, beginning at 5 p.m. and will resume on Wednesday until the time of service.
Pallbearers will be, Eric Lawson, Jeremy Norris, Terry Barger, Jimmy Marrs, Emily Marrs, and Jared Harrel. Damion Anderson will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Burial will follow in the Lucenda Cemetery.

James Joshua Brown 1955-2023

James Joshua Brown of Greensburg, Kentucky, son of the late Clarence Brown and Betty Spring Brown, was born on Friday, January 14, 1955 in Hornell, New York and passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at his home. He was 68 years, 3 months, and 15 days of age.

He was a Pipeline inspector for many years and also served in the United States Marine Corp.

Survived by his wife, Donna Jo Flatt Hensley Brown of Greensburg having united in marriage on April 27, 2013.
Other survivors include a son: Josh Brown of Holland New York; two daughters: Melissa Brown and Rosanna Fuller both of Holland, New York; six grandchildren: Jack Brown, Simon Brown, Madison Russell, Maddie Fuller, Lilly Fuller, and Landon Fuller; seven step-children: Miranda Stepp of Bloomington Springs, Tennessee, Mark Hensley of Liberty, Kentucky, Marissa Moss of Bloomington Springs, Tennessee, Martin Hensley of Smyrna, Tennessee, Morgan Hensley, Makenzie Hensley, and Mason Hensley all of Cookeville, Tennessee; eight step-grandchildren; two sisters: Paula Vandyke of Belmont, New York and Joy Stuart of Almond, New York; three brothers: Steve Brown of Greensburg, Jack Brown of Angelica, New York, and Rex Brown of Florida; and a host of other relatives and friends.
​
Honoring Mr. James Brown’s wishes, cremation was chosen. No formal services or visitation at this time.
