​Shannon Lynn Crew of Liberty, KY passed away Monday, September 28, 2015 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, KY. He was 36. 

Born August 23, 1979 in Casey County, KY, he is the son of Arvin Crew and Betty Hall McQueary. He was the operator of Shannon’s Auto Repair and a member of the Hustonville Baptist Church. 

Other survivors include his wife, Bobbie Carrier Crew, whom he married May 19, 1997; four sons, Brandon, Shawn, and Austin Crew and Shannon Hayden all of Liberty; two daughters, Haley and Lexus Crew of Liberty; a brother, Greg Crew of Liberty; and sister, Kathy Harmon of Louisville. 

He is preceded in death by a sister, Sheila Bennett Atwood. 

Funeral services are 1:00 P.M. Friday, October 2, 2015 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Jonathan Grizzell officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Contown Cemetery. 

Visitation is Thursday from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. 

Pallbearers are Brandon and Shawn Crew, Terrill and Josh Johnson, Kyle Bernard, and Neal Harmon. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be given to the funeral home to help offset funeral expenses.

Dianne Harris of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Vonda Glenn Owens and Nova Jean Byrd Owens, was born in Jelico, Tennessee, October 10, 1953. She died at 2:20 A.M., Sunday, September 27, 2015 in Campbellsville. Age: 61 

She was a former employee of Fruit of the Loom as well as a custodian for Forcht Bank, Taylor County Public Library and Palestine Baptist Church. 
Dianne professed faith in Christ and was a member of Palestine Baptist Church. 
She united in marriage to John Allen Harris November 11, 1971. 

Besides her husband, John Allen Harris, she is survived by one daughter, Jamie Robison and husband, Michael; two grandchildren: Landon Robison and Riley Robison of Campbellsville; one brother and one sister: Brenda Childers Witham and husband, Fred of Campbellsville and Butch Owens and Wife, Donna of LaGrange; one nephew and three nieces: Darren Childers, Stephanie Cundiff, Brandi Graham and Heather O’Banion; one sister-in-law, Linda Owens and many other relatives and friends.

She also was preceded in death by a brother, Buster Owens.

Larry Grooms of Campbellsville, son of the late Charles Grooms and Helen Cox Grooms, was born in Taylor County, Kentucky, November 28, 1940. He died at 10:11 P.M., Saturday, September 26, 2015, in Louisville. Age: 74 

He professed faith in Christ in 1984 and was a member of Mannsville Christian Church. 
Larry served his country honorably in the National Guard. 
He was a retired salesman with Mannsville Sash and Door for over forty years. 
He united in marriage to Judy Bright November 24, 1965. 

Besides his wife, Judy Grooms, he is survived by one son and one daughter: Rob Grooms and wife, Kim of Plainfield, Illinois and Janet Miller and husband, Steve of Roseville, California; one grandson, Jack Grooms as well as many other relatives and friends.

​Betty Jo Compton, 82, of Fairplay, Kentucky, died Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 4:43 A.M. at Norton Women and Children’s Hospital in Louisville. 

She was born December 15, 1932, in Adair County, to the late Elbert Clifton and Mattie Dimple McClister Loy.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Thurman Jean Loy and one great-grandson, William Trent Hampton.  She professed faith in Christ and was a homemaker. 

Survivors include: 
Her husband – Eddie Compton of Fairplay, whom she married December 25, 1953 
Three sons – Jerry (Cindy) Compton, Tony Joe (Pam) Compton, Stephen (Pam) Compton all of Fairplay 
Six daughters – Nancy (Jeff) Burton, Betty Sue (Charlie) Hancock, Rhonda (Garry) Cox, Tammy (Bill) Sexton all of Columbia, Marsha (Jim) Napier & Kathy (Keith) Greer all of Fairplay 
One sister – Myrna Coomer of Fairplay 
One brother – Tony Loy of Fairplay 
14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends

Lukas Kelly "Luke" Henderson of Greensburg, Kentucky, son of Thomas Henderson and Kelli Whitlow Henderson of Greensburg, was born on January 19, 1993 in Hardin County, Kentucky, and departed this life on Saturday, September 26, 2015. He was 22 years, eight months, and seven days of age.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Summersville Baptist Church. He was a mechanic and operator of a Luke's Auto Repair. He also loved to hunt.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his grandparents: William Earl and Annabelle Henderson of Summersville, and Boyce C. and Shirley Whitlow of Greensburg; a brother: Clint Henderson of Greensburg; aunts and uncles: Earl Young and Andi Henderson, Jack and Darlene Henderson, John and Katie Henderson, Philip Cox all of Green County, and Forrest Whitlow and his companion, Jill Peltzer of Missouri; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Luke was preceded in death by an aunt: Paula Whitlow Cox.

The funeral services for Lukas Kelly "Luke" Henderson will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home. Bro. Al Hardy will be officiating.

Visitation is requested from 3:30 P.M. until 9 P.M., Monday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7 A.M., Tuesday until time of the funeral service.

Mr. Glyn A. Scott of Louisville, Kentucky, son of the late Charles Homer Scott and Lura Thomas Dobson Scott, was born on March 26, 1932 in Green County, Kentucky, and departed this life on Friday, September 25, 2015 at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville. He was 83 years, five months, and 30 days of age.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ, was plant manager for Kentucky Trailers having worked for the company for 47 years, and was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the United States Army.

Mr. Scott is survived by his wife of 63 years, Blanche Thompson Scott of Louisville, Kentucky, having united in marriage on October 12, 1951.

Other survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law: Barbara Ann Wells, Tina Marie Scott, and Connie and Mark Mills of Virginia; three grandchildren: Aaron and Alicia Wells of Louisville, Jonathan and Claire Mills of Tennessee, and Samantha Mills of Virginia; a great-grandchild: Matthew Wells of Louisville; a brother and sister-in-law: Jerry and Joyce Scott of Summersville; a sister and brother-in-law: JoAnn and Bill Hildebrand of Louisville; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Scott was also preceded in death by five brothers and a sister: Ollin Scott, James Scott, Dennis Scott, Charles Scott, Albert Scott, and Christine Cox.

The funeral services for Mr. Glyn A. Scott will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Monday, September 28, 2015 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Bell Cemetery with military honors. Bro. Leslie Jewell, Bro. Roger Scott, and Bro. Jerry Lynn Scott will be officiating.

Callie Mae Matney Houk

Mrs. Callie Mae Matney Houk of Greensburg, Kentucky, daughter of the late Lewis Matney and Rindie Neagle Matney, was born on July 12, 1923 in Green County, and departed this life on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the Campbellsville Nursing & Rehab Center. She was 92 years, two months, and 14 days of age.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ, was a member of the Greasy Creek Cemetery, and was a homemaker.

She united in marriage to Vernon L. Houk on July 14, 1941who preceded her in death on October 3, 2008.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law: Joey and Jennifer Houk of Greensburg; two daughters: Sandra Houk Ervin, and Jewell Houk and her special friend, Tommy Judd all of Greensburg; a brother-in-law: Floyd Houk of Greensburg; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Houk was also preceded in death by a son: Jerry Wayne Houk; a son-in-law: Randall Ervin; two brothers; and five sisters.

The funeral services for Mrs. Callie Mae Matney Houk will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Monday, September 28, 2015 at the Greasy Creek Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Greasy Creek Cemetery. Bro. Wilburn Bonta, Bro. Mark Lile, and Bro. Roger Robertson will be officiating.

Visitation is requested from 4 P.M. until 8 P.M., Sunday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 9 A.M., Monday at the Greasy Creek Baptist Church until time of the funeral service.

Larry Wayne Strevels, 65 of Boyle County passed away Friday, September 25, 2015. Born May 9, 1950, he was the son of the late Edgar and Reva Presley Strevels. He was a gifted carpenter and painter.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Lamb Strevels and brother Edgar Strevels, Jr. He is survived by 3 daughters: Tammela (Dan) Nikolich of Independence, Trish (Patty) Stamper of Rockcastle County and Deborah Gilpin of Danville; 3 sons: Larry Strevels, Jr and Jason Keith (Kellee) Strevels, both of Nancy and Jason Lee (Carrie) Gilpin of Danville; 1 brother, Marvin L. Rousey of FL; 2 sisters: Judy (W.T.) Devine of Danville and Doris Logsdon of Junction City; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 pm, Thursday at Worldstown Church of God by Bro. Lonnie Goodin with burial in Parksville Cemetery. Visitation is after 11 am, Thursday at the church.

Benny Ray Thompson, 62 of Stanford died Thursday, September 24, 2015. Born January 27, 1953, he was the son of Gladys Griffin Naylor of Danville and the late Ben Thompson.

He is survived by his girlfriend of 22 years, Shelia Pike of Stanford; 3 daughters: Penny (Michael) Benedict of Waynesburg and Frankie Jo Thompson and Amanda Thompson, both of Stanford; 2 sons: Nathan (Stephanie) Thompson of Kings Mt. and Michael Thompson of Lexington; 2 brothers: Bobby and Kenny Thompson of Danville; 4 sisters: Brenda Thompson, Lucida Boswell, Kim Naylor and Sue Naylor, all of Danville; and five grandchildren: Kayla, Cody, Cameron, Skyler and Braylee. 

Services will be at 11 am, Monday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home with burial in Danville Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 5-9 pm, Sunday.

Fred Arms, 97, of Danville (formerly of Russell County) died Friday, September 25, 2015 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. He was born June 15, 1918 in Celina, TN to the late James & Eula Sevier Arms.

He was a World War II Veteran of US Army, a member of First Christian Church in Danville and worked for US Department of Agriculture.

Preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Enola Belle Foley Arms

Survivors

2 children: Eric Arms, Lexington, Ky and Laura (Jason) Craven, Louisville

6 grandchildren: Ashley, Kacey, Madison, Brooke, Anna, and Benjamin

2 great grandchildren: Caiden & Xander

2 nieces: Linda Arms White (Trigg) and Sharon Arms, both of Allenspark, Colorado

1 nephew: Carl Emshoff (Merry Lou), Dallas, TX

Funeral service for Fred Arms will be 10 AM. Monday, September 28, 2015 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Carroll Egnew officiating. 

Visitation 5-7 PM. Sunday and after 9 AM, Monday at the Bernard Funeral Home.

Interment in the Russell Springs City Cemetery with full military honors by the Russell County Honor Guard.
