Ronnie Lee Pyles, 73, of Columbia, KY died Sunday, July 12, 2020 at the Liberty Care and Rehabilitation Center in Liberty, KY.  Born in Columbia, KY he was the son of the late Walter “Jug” and Laura Hagy Pyles.

Mr. Pyles was a member of the New Hope Separate Baptist Church and a former employee of Fruit of the Loom.  He was a Kentucky Colonel and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by a daughter Angela Russell (Jimmy) of Campbellsville, KY; four grandchildren Austin Belt, Clayton Russell, Jimmy Russell Jr. and Mary Russell; two brothers Kenny Pyles (Demaris) of Columbia and Tony Pyles (Barb) of White House, OH; a sister Linda Capps of Mt. Washington, KY and three nieces Rhonda, Tabitha and Sara.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the New Hope Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00-8:00pm and continue on Wednesday morning until time for the service at the funeral home.  Bro. David Coffey will be officiating.

For the health and respect of the family, please follow all rules for social distancing and The Healthy at Work Guidelines.  Everyone attending will be required to wear a mask or face covering. ​

Bill “Bud” Spicer

Bill “Bud” Spicer, 88 of Columbia, KY passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at the Jean
Waddle Care Center in Somerset, KY after several months illness.

He was a born in Irvine, KY on July 22, 1931 the son of the late Chester Arthur and Brucie
Pearl Flynn Spicer. He was also preceded in death by one sister Gloria Faye Wiseman.

Mr. Spicer was a graduate of the University of Kentucky. He was recruited to the University of Kentucky football program by the legendary Bear Bryant where he helped his team win the 1950 Cotton Bowl.

Bill served his country in Korea serving in both the US Navy and US Marine Corps, he  retired from the Army Reserves in 1979 and was a very active member of the Columbia VFW Post 6097.

He was a former teacher and coach at Irvine High School.

He worked for the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture 4-H Extension Program from 1968 until his retirement in 1993.

Mr. Spicer taught Hunter Education for over 30 years for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, he loved competitive shooting participating in the Bluegrass Games where he won many medals and competed on the National Rifle Team for many years.

He was a member of the Columbia Christian Church where he had served as a deacon and elder and Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Columbia Lodge # 96 where he served as Past Master. He conferred Masonic funeral rites for many brother masons for many years. He was active in the Adair County Sportsmen’s Club for many years serving as past president and member of the Board of Directors.  

His passion was shooting, hunting , fishing and gardening as well as all other outdoor activities
Survived by his wife: Helen Tuttle Spicer of Columbia, KY,

Two daughters:  Holly Price of Lexington, KY and Shaunah Claywell & husband Rollin of
Somerset, KY.
Three grandchildren Amy Rowe (Mike), Meggin Yates (Dennis), Isaac Claywell (Deah)
Three great grandchildren  Michael Tyler Rowe, Abby Dawn Rowe, Molly Rae Hadley
One brother: Chester Spicer of Irvine, KY and one sister Wanda Ruth Robbins of Fruitland Park, Florida.
Several nieces and nephews and a host of friends survive.

Funeral service: Saturday July 11, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home
Clergy officiating:  Bro. John Davis and  Bro. Terry White
Interment in the McClister Cemetery
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:30 PM Friday at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.
Masonic rites will be conferred by Columbia Lodge # 96 on Friday at 7:00 PM
Full military rites will be conferred by Columbia VFW Post 6097 at the graveside.
Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Dwight Coomer 65 of Columbia died Thursday, July 09, 2020 at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, KY. Born in Adair County he was the son of the late Arnold and Mary Christine Flatt Coomer.

Mr. Coomer is survived by his brother Doug Coomer (Jo Ann) of Mt.Washington, KY and sisters Patsy Wilson (Bruce) of Columbia, KY and Carol Johnson (Stariett) of Columbia, KY; his longtime companion Tammy Burton of Columbia, KY; nieces and nephews Tammy Wilson, Chris Wilson, Jason Coomer, Rodney Coomer, Stacey Coomer, Tina Johnson; great nieces and nephews Peyton Coomer, Gracie Wilson & Simon Wilson, Hannah Coomer & Jacob Coomer; also survived by special friends Houston Hestand & Billy Jordan Burton.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two siblings Betty Frances Coomer and Charles Thomas Coomer.

Funeral service will be 1:00pm Friday July 10, 2020 at the Stotts-Phelps- McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Sparksville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday from 10:00am until time for the service.
Bro. Bobby Neal will be officiating and pallbearers will be Chris Wilson, Rodney Coomer, Jason Coomer, Houston Hestand, Billy Jordan Burton & Earl Conover.

Mrs. Lisa Carol Gumm Brown, age 61, of Upton, Kentucky, formerly of Greensburg, passed away Tuesday June 30, 2020 at her Residence in Upton.

She was born in Louisville to Norman Gumm and Dixie Hay Miller. She was a office clerk for Hanson Aggregates for 37 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one Sister, Moenica Guerin.

She is survived by her loving Husband James "Double J" Brown of Upton, KY. six sisters, Jeri Lynn (Joe) Stone of Campbellsville, KY, Connie Noe of Hodgenville, KY, Kimberly (Bubba) Scallon of Deridder, LA, Mary Kathleen Gumm of LA, Colleen (Berk) Bunzey of Lavelle, FL, Vickie (Mark) Baldwin of Seattle, WA, three brothers, Dennis Gumm of Port Arthur, TX, William (Cathy) Gumm of Blacknet, KY, Al (Angie) Mulkey of Seattle, WA. Many nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and special friends.

Funeral Services will be conducted Monday July 6, 2020 1:00 p.m., Eastern Time, at the Manakee Funeral Home in Upton, Kentucky. Burial will be held at the O'Banion Family Cemetery in Greensburg.
Visitation will be Sunday 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Eastern Time, or Monday 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Eastern Time, at the Manakee Funeral Home in Upton.

Raydean Pierce, 71, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Tuesday, June 30th, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. 

Raydean was born in Jamestown, KY on May 22, 1949, a daughter of the late Mary (Brumley) and William Hall. 

Raydean is survived by 
husband, William Pierce 
a daughter, Mary (David) Holderfield 
a sister, Jestine Scully 
She is also survived by 3 grandchildren as well as a host of nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, son Raymond Pierce, 3 brothers Glen, Clifton and John Hall, 3 sisters Pauline Hall, Judy Miller and Kathleen Earls. 

Graveside Service at Jamestown Cemetery, Jamestown, KY, at 12:00 noon on Friday, July 3rd, with Bro. Phillip Miller officiating. 

Walk through visitation Friday 10:00 AM to 12:00 .Noon at H. E. Pruitt Memory Chapel. 

Burial at Jamestown Cemetery Jamestown, KY.
