James “Jim” William Marrs

James “Jim” William Marrs of Campbellsville, son of the late Howard Marrs and Ester “Tillie” Leger Marrs, was born March 5, 1953 in Floyd County, Indiana. He died at 3:58 P.M., Friday, November 23, 2018 in Campbellsville.   Age: 65

James professed faith in Christ and was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired farmer who could be described as a hard working man.  James enjoyed playing his guitar and could draw a crowd by his larger than life personality.  When he was able he enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing.  James also enjoyed learning of his family genealogy and family history. Above all he was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He united in marriage to Linda Robertson March 10, 1974.  She preceded him in death January 25, 2015.

He is survived by one son and two daughters: James William Marrs Jr. and wife, Desiree and Mary Kendall and husband, Jimmy Kendall II of Campbellsville and Angela Akin of Greensburg; twelve grandchildren: Bradley Madden and wife, Angie and Jamie Madden of Salem, Indiana, Pamela Collins, Josh Kendall, Joe Kendall, Jonah Kendall and wife, Amber, Hailey Kendall, Jesse Kendall, Meghan Marrs, Emily Marrs and Ava Marrs all of Campbellsville and Alexander Marrs of Lebanon; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers: Betty Bryant and husband, Lonnie of New Albany, Indiana, Benny Marrs and wife, Debbie of Fredericksburg, Indiana, Jane Senn and husband, Raymond of Milltown, Indiana and George Marrs and wife, Rhonda of Campbellsville; brothers and sisters-in-law: Marvin Robertson and wife, Elaine of Louisville, Jim Abrams of Pekin, Indiana, Robbie Robertson of Sellersburg, Indiana, Eddie Robertson and wife, Donna of Elizabeth, Indiana, and Melissa Neese of Marengo, Indiana; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Lewis Edward Marrs in infancy and John Marrs.

Ina Opal Tucker Thomas, 95, of Jamestown, died Sunday, November 25, 2018 at the Fair Oaks Nursing Home in Jamestown. She was born February 10, 1923 in Russell County to the late
Onnie & Sadie West McQueary.

Ina was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God.

Preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters

Michael L. “Mike” Doss of Columbia, the son of the late Donald and Virginia Lee Doss, was born Monday, April 13, 1964 in Frankfort, KY and departed this life on Friday, November 23, 2018 in Columbia at his home. He was 54 years, 7 months and 11 days of age.

          He was a contract painter and was of the Church of Christ Faith.

          He is survived by his wife: Linda Turner Doss of Columbia; a son: John M. Doss of Columbia; three step-children: Jason Turner of Antioch, TN, Matthew Turner and wife Carrie of Campbellsville and Ashley Murphy and husband Jr of Columbia; a brother: Lewis Doss of Liberty; two sisters: Donna Taylor and husband Ricky of Columbia and June Anderson and husband Sam of Campbellsville; four step-grandchildren: Katelyn, Ethan and Kayden Murphy and Ryan Hogan and a host of other relatives and friends.

          The funeral service for Michael L. “Mike” Doss will be conducted Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. CST (Columbia Time) in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home in Campbellsville with burial to follow in the Haven Hill Cemetery in Columbia.

          Visitation after 10:30 A.M. CST (Columbia Time) on Tuesday at the funeral home.

GERALD L. McLEAN

GERALD L. McLEAN, 76, of Columbia, KY passed away Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 4:00 AM at his residence after several months illness. Born in Lebanon, Kentucky on August 17, 1942 he was the son of the late Joseph Lynn and Lottie Durham McLean.

Gerald was a lifelong commercial and residential building contractor.  McLean Construction Company renovated the Adair County Courthouse, constructed the John Adair School and the Adair County Library.  Gerald McLean was the project manager for the Lindsey Wilson College Cranmer Dining Center, Fugate Science Building, Holloway Health and Wellness Center along with numerous other projects on the  campus.  He attended the 3trees church and he enjoyed boating on Green River Lake and his annual Gatlinburg, Tennessee trips.  

Survived by his longtime devoted companion;  Charmaine Stewart of Columbia, KY

Two daughters; Sherri (Carl) Johnson of Columbia, and Suzanne (Michael) Sandidge of Stearns, Kentucky  Four grandchildren, Baylee (Wes) Walker, Connor Johnson, Trent Harrison, Tate Sandidge

Funeral services will be at 1:00pm Monday, November 26, 2018 at the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Haven Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.

Herbert Richard, 89, of Columbia, died Thursday, November 22, 2018 at 11:10 A.M. at T.J. Samson Hospital in Glasgow.

He was born June 18, 1929 in Adair County to the late Hallie & Mazetta Wilson Richard.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Jane Cowan in 1978.  Herbert was a member of Gradyville Baptist Church, a retired custodian of the Adair County School System and Adair Memorial Hospital.  He also enjoyed bowling, golfing & was an avid UK fan. 

Survivors Include:
One Son & Daughter-in-law – Wallace & Teresa Richard of Columbia
Two Grandchildren – Josh & Noah Richard
Several Other Relatives & Friends also survive

Carmen Malone

Carmen Malone of Campbellsville, daughter of the late John Shelby Lemmon and Betty Ann Brockman Lemmon, was born June 24, 1934 in Taylor County, Kentucky. She died at 8:14 A.M., Monday, November 19, 2018 in Campbellsville.               Age: 84 

Carmen professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

As a homemaker, Carmen’s house was always very well kept and well organized. She truly enjoyed taking care of her family and that naturally carried over into her care of children at the Kiddieland Daycare where she was loved.  Carmen also enjoyed spending time with friends and line dancing.  

She united in marriage to William Logan “PeeWee” Malone , Jr. August 15, 1952 and he preceded her in death June 21, 2004.
​
She is survived by one son and one daughter: Ricky Malone and wife, Mona and Vickie Malone of Campbellsville; two grandchildren: Andrea Prewitt and husband, Tom of Massillon, Ohio and Jason Malone and fiancée, Tiffany Cox of Campbellsville; three step-grandchildren:  Elizabeth Williams and husband, Zac of Lexington, Chrissy Martin and husband, Saint of Richmond and Bekah Jeffries and husband, Justin of Lexington; four great-grandchildren:  Logan Prewitt, Taylor Prewitt, Reese Prewitt and Lane Prewitt of Ohio; four step-great-grandchildren:  Haley Williams, Tre Martin, Griffin Jeffries and Sebastian Jeffries; one brother, Ronnie Lemmon and wife, JoEllen of Campbellsville; one brother-in-law, Ancil Reynolds of Campbellsville; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Jewell Reynolds.

The Malone family would like to express their thanks for the care received by the Staffs at Grandview Nursing & Rehab, Taylor Regional Hospital, Dr. Dixon, Dr. Nelson and Dr. Graves.

Lenora G. Parrish, 88, of Columbia, KY died Monday, November 19, 2018 at her residence.  Born in Adair County on October 22, 1930 she was the daughter of the late B. H. and Mackie Coomer Brown.  Mrs. Parrish was a member of the Antioch United Methodist Church.
 
Survivors include her husband Garon Parrish; a sister Audra Campbell of Columbia, KY; several nieces and nephews including her caregiver Connie Scott of Columbia.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Oscar Gowen, four sisters Alice Coomer, Claudia Coomer, Faye Bault and Cymbylene Gowen, four brothers Duleth, Roscoe, Herbert and Calvin Brown and a step-son Mark Parrish.
 
Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Antioch Cemetery.  Visitation will be after 3:00pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Netta Rose Robertson, 65, of Columbia, KY died Monday, November 19, 2018 at the University Of Louisville Hospital.  Born in Pulaski County, KY on November 13, 1953 she was the daughter of the late George Preston and Hazel Bernice Burton Bryant. 

Mrs. Robertson was a member of the Purdy Separate Baptist Church and a former employee of Oshkosh in Columbia.

Survivors include her husband Howard Robertson of Columbia; two sons Todd Robertson (Candice) and Kevin Robertson (Kelly) both of Columbia, KY; six grandchildren Abagail, Grant, Riley, Bryant, Annabelle and Graham Robertson; four sisters Marga Bryant, Marsha Allen (Bill), Milva Lawless (Dwight) and Georgia Judd all of Columbia, KY and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1:00pm Friday, November 23, 2018 at the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Haven Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be after 4:00pm Thursday at the funeral home.

Bro. Craig Huddleston and Bro. Jamie Bryant will be officiating and pallbearers will be Doug Cowan, Trevor Robertson, Tyler Bryant, Daniel Lawless, Parker Staten, Anthony Lawless and Asa Lawhorn.

​Bettie Jean Chelf Benningfield, 85, of Campbellsville, KY died Saturday, November 18, 2018 at the Campbellsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  Born on May 8, 1933 in the Knifley community of Adair County she was the daughter of the late Ira and Bettie B. Knifley Chelf and wife of the late Algusta “Gus” Benningfield.  
 
Mrs. Benningfield was a member of the Campbellsville Baptist Church and a former employee of Walmart for over 20 years, RECC and Central KY OBGYN.  
 
Survivors include five sisters-in-law Lucille Ellis of Lebanon, KY, Lena Mae Gupton, Pauline Judd (Gene), Pansy Barnett and Wanda Beck (David) all of Campbellsville, KY; two brothers-in-law Ronnel Lee Benningfield (Imogene) of Finley, KY and Jr. Benningfield (Juanita) of Campbellsville, KY; several nieces, nephews and a host of other friends and relatives.  In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sisters Maxine Farris and Allene Cundiff and three brothers Herman, Leon and Bobbie Chelf.
 
Funeral services will be 11:00AM eastern time Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Brookside Cemetery in Campbellsville, KY.  Visitation will be after 5:00pm eastern time Monday at the funeral home.
 
Rev. Brad Lauer will be officiating and pallbearers will be Scott Callison, Jeremy Benningfield, Ronnie Ray Benningfield, Gary Gupton, Steve Benningfield and William Feese.

Gerald Hodges “Hodge” Skaggs

Gerald Hodges “Hodge” Skaggs of Campbellsville, son of the late Ernest Hamilton Skaggs and Annie Elizabeth Matherly Skaggs was born November 26, 1929 in Taylor County, Kentucky. He died at 9:30 P.M., Saturday, November 17, 2018 in Campbellsville.         Age: 88

He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Bible Baptist Tabernacle.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served his country honorably in the United States Navy.

Hodge retired from Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville after some forty years of service.

He loved the outdoors and could often be found wading, fishing or hunting wild mushrooms when he was not spending time with his grandchildren and the rest of his family.

Hodge united in marriage to Dimple Sallee June 28, 1958 and she preceded him in death May 12, 1992.

He is survived by one daughter, Cindy Doss of Campbellsville; five grandchildren: Andrea Smith Finn and husband, Jordan, Jackie Smith and Chelsey Doss Thompson of Campbellsville, Thomas Smith and wife, Chanelle of Louisville and Katie Doss Evans and husband, Dalen of Hendersonville, Tennessee; thirteen great-grandchildren: Kylee Cox, Evan Finn, Carson Smith, Camden Finn, Layne Fisher, Parker Hamilton, Owen Thompson, Kadynn Smith, Ella Ferguson, Willa Thompson, Dansby Thompson, Nash Evans and Merritt Smith; a special friend, Betty Myers; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Besides his wife, Dimple Skaggs he is preceded in death by a son, Jerry Thomas Skaggs; four brothers and one sister: Ted Skaggs, Thomas Hamilton Skaggs, Lee Skaggs, Jimmy Skaggs and Virginia Skaggs and a son-in-law, Jerry Doss.
