Limon Harris, 79, a resident of Fair Oaks Nursing Home, died Tuesday, August 30, 2016. He was born April 20, 1937 in Russell County to the late Warren & Luzetta Stephens Harris.

He was a car salesman and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

A private memorial service will be held later in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida.
There will be no local visitation or services

Gladys Emerson, 87, of Russell Springs, died Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at her home. She was born May 23, 1929 in Pulaski County to the late Offie & Lina Dause Norfleet.

She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Eden United Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cassell Emerson.

Survivors
1 son: Danny Joe (Bridgett) Emerson, Russell Springs
2 grandsons: Tyler (Brittany) Emerson, Raleigh, N.C. and Patrick Emerson, Russell Springs
1 sister: Murriel Minton, Michigan

Funeral service for Gladys Emerson will be 11 AM. Friday, September 2, 2016 at the Bernard Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Roy officiating.
Visitation 5-8 PM. Thursday.
Interment in the Union Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Ben Lawless, Jediah Lawless, Anthony Lawless, Michael Perkerson, Keith Owens, Tim Owens

Marshall F. McAninch

Marshall F. McAninch, son of Willie and Opal Hatter McAninch, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016 at St Joseph Hospital after complications from heart surgery.

He graduated from Middleburg High School and attended Campbellsville University and Eastern Kentucky University. Marshall was a retiree of IBM/Lexmark, a Kentucky Colonel and a former Richmond City Commissioner. His first Commission race was won by a flip-of-the-coin. His greatest accomplishment was the creation of the Recycling Program.

Marshall is survived by his wife of 52 years, Vivien Durham McAninch; his daughter, Sherri, (Gary) Short of Richmond; his son, Frank, of Casey County; his brother, Johnnie (Wanda) McAninch, of West Chester, OH; his sister Brenda, (Dennis) Brockman of Knoxville; five nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind four granddaughters, Megan Short, Rachel Short, Natalie McAninch, and Catherine McAninch, whom he loved and cherished. He called them his “girls”.

His passion was his family and his work, especially farming. He enjoyed owning and maintaining his rental property and farming his family’s land in Casey County. Marshall was the happiest when he was busy, whether it be farming, gardening, or working on his latest project and especially when he was on his tractor. For decades he was known as the “Apple Man” selling his Casey County Apples in Richmond and Madison County. Everyone knew Marshall as a hard-working man and he enjoyed seeing the results of his labor. But at the same time, he also liked to sit in his favorite chair and take a nap. He loved to travel, having visited all 50 states and several countries with Vivien and his family. He enjoyed watching basketball, cheering on the Cats and the EKU Colonels. He could be found at every EKU home basketball game, sitting in the same seat for more than 40 years.

Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Friday, September 2, 2016 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home in Richmond and a Celebration of Life Service at Bartle Funeral Home, in Liberty, KY at 12 noon Saturday, September 3, 2016. The service will be followed by a reception for families and friends there. Burial will follow in the Rich Hill Cemetery, Casey County.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Hospice Compassionate Care Center, 350 Isaacs Lane, Richmond, KY 40475, an organization that Marshall supported, or to the Rich Hill Cemetery Board, c/o Dale Hoskins, 15 Montgomery Street, Liberty, KY 42539.

James Edward “Jim” McAfee

James Edward “Jim” McAfee, 87 of Danville passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2016. Born January 22, 1929 in Logan County, he was the son of the late Samuel Taylor and Ruth Irene Bearden McAfee. Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patsy Ruth Hastings McAfee.

Jim received his AB at Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1951, his MA from the University of KY in 1958 and his Rank I, also from UK, in 1968. He was first a coach and teacher at Salt Lick High, Mt. Sterling High and Versailles High from 1952-1962; principal at Mt. Sterling High from 1962-1967; principal at Danville High from 1967-1973; Instructional Service Advisor for Jefferson County and Northern Kentucky for the KY Department of Education from 1973-1991 and then worked for the KY Department of Service Mining in finance from 1991-2003.

He has served on numerous boards, including: Danville Board of Education (1988-1992); Chairman, Danville Board of Education (1990-1992); K.E.A., N.E.A., N.A.S.S.P., and K.A.S.S.P; President, KY Association of Secondary School Principals; President, Central KY Conference; and KY Committee of the Southern Association. He is a former member of the Versailles Rotary Club and Danville Rotary Club, KY Methodist Conference Council on Higher Education, and the Wesley Foundation at EKU and is a KY Colonel.

Jim is a member of Danville Centenary United Methodist Church, where he has served as chairman of the Staff-Pastor-Parish Relations and as a member of the Administrative Board. 

He enjoyed golf, reading, TV, athletics, and UK football and basketball. He owned and operated Blue Diamond Tours to UK football games.

In addition to his wife, Patsy, he is survived by three children: Mary Jane McAfee (Paul) O’Bryan of Springfield, David Edward (Robyn) McAfee of Danville and Jim Allen McAfee of New Albany, IN; six grandchildren: Patricia O’Bryan (Steven) Squires of Campbellsville, Jim Allen (Tara) O’Bryan of Lexington, Michael (Cara) McAfee of Danville, McKenzie McAfee of Danville; Ryan McAfee of New Albany, IN and Megan McAfee of New Albany, IN; four great grandchildren: Carter and Cam McAfee of Danville, Trevor O’Bryan of Lexington and Tyler James Squires of Campbellsville; brother, Douglas McAfee of Harrodsburg and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 am, Friday at Danville Centenary United Methodist Church by Rev. Dr. Mike Voigts, Rev. Dr. Quentin Scholtz and Don Lane. Visitation Thursday, September 01, 20165:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Danville Centenary United Methodist Church

Pallbearers are Agnes Hampton, Paul Hampton, Joe Simpson, Mike Hunt John Kennedy and Jay Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers are Russell Kreider, George Cunningham and all members of the Pruitt Sunday School Class.

Memorial Contributions suggested to Centenary United Methodist Church.

George Preston Coomer age 76 of Glasgow passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 at Commonwealth Regional Speciality Hospital in Bowling Green.   He was the son of the late Chapman and Mary Francis Ferguson Coomer.  

He was retired from the Sanitation Department of the city of Glasgow.  

 He is survived by a son David Coomer of Glasgow.  
Two daughters.   Judy Smith and Tina Coomer both of Glasgow.  
Two sisters.  Katherine Taylor and Brenda Mack both of Glasgow.  
Six grandchildren.   Michelle Smith, Kimberly Gonzalez, Krystal Coomer, Cassandra Shaw and Seth Moore all of Glasgow.   Matthew Coomer of Austin Tracey.  
Eight great grandchildren also survive.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Georgia Ann Coomer. Two brothers Roger and Cliff Coomer and three sisters Minie Franklin, Alice Fields and Betty Taylor.

 Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM  Thursday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in the Metcalfe County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM  Wednesday and after 9:00 AM Thursday at the funeral home.

Jerry Lynn Holley

Jerry Lynn Holley age 59 of Knob Lick passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 at Kindred Hospital in Louisville.   He was the son of the late James and Lela Coffey Holley.    

He was a farmer.   

He is survived by his wife Betty Hagan Holley.    One son Josh Holley of Knob Lick and a daughter Erin (B.J.) Bishop of Knob Lick.   One brother Jimmy (Sharon) Holley of Knob Lick.    Two sisters, Rebecca (Darryl) Robbins of Glasgow and Bernice Holley of Knob Lick.    Four grandchildren.    Cricket Bishop, Jessica Bishop, Mason Holley and Connie Bishop.  

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Danny Holley.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM  Thursday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in the Houk Cemetery.   Visitation will be 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM  Wednesday and after 9:00 AM  Thursday at the funeral home.

Jim Young

Jim Young passed away Sunday, August 28, 2016 at his home in Casey County, KY. He was 73.

Born March 30, 1943 in Smith County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late William Carson Young and Alva Lancaster Young. He was an engineer for British Petroleum and a farmer. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Jim graduated from Gordonsville High School in Tennessee; he had a Bachelors of Science from Tennessee Tech, and a Masters in Business from Syracuse University. Jim was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. He loved working on his ranch with his horses and cattle. Jim was a generous friend and active in the community. He was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.

Survivors include two sons, James DuBois (and Renee) Young of Columbus, Ohio and John David Young (and Gretchen Hunt) of Louisville; four grandchildren, David, Wilson, Jane, and Katherine; and a brother, Jere Young of Tennessee.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Jane DuBois Young, who died May 17, 1988; and two brothers, Tommy and Bill Young.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Cookeville Cemetery in Tennessee. Burial will follow service.
Visitation is Friday from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

Charolette Crouse, age 71, formerly of Campbellsville died Friday, August 26, 2016 in Springfield, IL where she had lived for the past 30 years. A social worker, she had been employed by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

She was born January 24, 1945 in Taylor County, KY to the late Virgil and Mamie Rice Phillips and was also preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph Phillips and Harry Less Phillips and a sister, Kathleen Moore.

She is survived by her brother, Roy Phillips and his wife, Cindy of Leitchfield.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at the Phillips Family Cemetery. 

Family and friends will gather at Lyon-DeWitt-Berry Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Wednesday prior to leaving for the cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to the Phillips Cemetery Fund which may sent to Lyon-DeWitt-Berry Funeral Home, 503 E. Main ST., Campbellsville, KY 42718.

Michael J. Allen, age 58, of Liberty, KY passed away on Sunday August 28th, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Lebanon, KY on October 15th, 1957 the son of Wanda Allen of Danville and the late Beckham Allen.

Michael was a diesel mechanic.

Additional Survivors include: His Spouse: Jennifer Propes Allen, Two Daughters: Amista Quinn of Elkhorn, KY and Casey Whitehurst of Liberty, KY, Two Sons: Jody Allen of Campbellsville, KY and Jared Allen of Liberty, KY, Eight Grandchildren, Eight Brothers: Conley, George, Tommy, Billy, David and Teddy Allen all of Liberty, Larry Allen of OH and Wayne Allen of TN and Three Sisters: Marlene Wells of Russell Springs, KY, Corie Lyman of Mesa, AZ and Della Cornett of Liberty, KY.

Besides Michael’s father he was also preceded in death by One Son: Chad Allen.

Visitation will be held 6:00 P.M. Tuesday August 30th, 2016 at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel and after 8:00 A.M. Wednesday August 31st, 2016 at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Wednesday August 31st, 2016 at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jeff Edwards officiating. Burial will be in the Allen Cemetery.
