Silas Sweet, age 86, of Hickory Nut, departed this life on July 24, 2016 at his residence.
Silas was born on March 21, 1930 in Nancy, KY to the late Gertie Dick and James Sweet. He was a member of Fishing Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by his children, Brenda (and Thomas) Garner and Wanda McGowan, both of Somerset, Janie Burton, Audie (and Jackie) Sweet and Danny Sweet, all of Nancy and Chastity Burton of Florida; two brothers, Dannie (and Coray) Sweet and Donnie (and Rose) Sweet; one sister, Zelma Sweet; twelve grandchildren, Lella Still, Jennifer Wilson, Lemuel Hayes Burton IV, Audrey Sweet, Dylan Burton, Elizabeth Combs, Danielle (and Shane) Keith, Melissa Hines, Arlo McGowan, Matthew Burton, Morgan Burton and Braxton Keith; eight great-grandchildren, Andrew Sweet, Destiny Sweet, Leland Still, Kayla Taylor, Lemuel Hayes Burton V, Nathan Hart, Shaylynn Keith and Deara Keith; and a special friend, George Emerson.
Along with his parents, Silas is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Lorraine Eldridge Sweet, whom he married on November 17, 1956 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and she preceded him on March 10, 2015; two brothers, Dale Sweet and Willis Sweet; and two sisters, Velva Sweet and Mavine Stringer.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 27, 2016 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
His funeral service will follow on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 1:00pm with Bro. Travis Strunk officiating. Interment will be in the Sweet Cemetery.
