
Sam McCorkle retired from Southern Railway as Road Foreman of Engines after 39 years of service.
Sam was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Blaine McCorkle, Sr., his mother, Nancy Catherine Galloway McCorkle, his wife, Eloise Morton McCorkle, sons, James Ray McCorkle, Ronald D. McCorkle, and sisters, Mildred Marcus, Jane Stoehr, and Ann Adkins.
He is survived by his children - Sam McCorkle and wife, Diane; Ellen Downey and husband, Ray Downey and daughter-in-law, Jeannie McCorkle, grandchildren; Denise Hancock, Lisa Cain, Jimmy McCorkle, Kim Collins, Kelly McCorkle, Sammy McCorkle, Erin Colbaugh, Rachel Cox, Laura McCorkle, and Blaine McCorkle, 16 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Mathis. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery with Military Honors provided by U.S. Navy and American Legion Saufley Post #18. Visitation will be 11 am - 1pm, Wednesday before the service at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to the Danville-Boyle County Humane Society.
