Ruby Irene Catchen-Abbott, 84, of Somerset, Kentucky, formerly of New Castle, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at her son's Home in Columbus, Indiana.
She was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky on October 29, 1931, daughter of the late James Ervin Catchen and Flora Denny Floyd. She retired from the Henry County School System in New Castle, Indiana, having worked there for the better part of 40 years. She had attended High School in Madison County, KY and graduated from Eubank High School in 1948. Ruby then moved on to attend College in Berea and Eastern Kentucky University. She also received her Master's Degree from Ball State University. She belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary Fraternal Order of Eagles, Indiana State Teaching Association and the National Education Association.
Ruby is survived by one son, Charles P. & (Monica) Abbott III of Columbus, IN, one grandchild, three great-grandchildren, two brothers, Don & (Missy) Catchen of Park Hills, KY and Ron & (Debbie) Catchen of Mt. Sterling, KY, three sisters; Dora Ruckel of New Castle, IN, Bobbie Atkinson of Lexington, KY and Georgia & (Dave) Schermer of West Chester, OH and several nieces and nephews, along with great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded by her husband of 53 years, Charles P. "June" Abbott Jr.
Visitation will be from 4 PM to 8 PM Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home, 5900 N. Hwy 27 Science Hill, Kentucky 42553.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Sweeney officiating.
Burial will be in Woodstock Cemetery.
Donation may be made to Hospice of one's choice.
