Roy Glenn Emerson, age 77, of Fort Worth, TX, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2016, in Bartlett, TN. Born November 24, 1938, in Pulaski Co., KY, he was a son of the late Everett Preston and Hazel Mildred Burton Emerson. Roy graduated from Middleburg High School in 1956. In 1958, he went to Lindsey Wilson College on a basketball scholarship before entering the US Air Force. Roy later enrolled in Miami University in Ohio where he received his Bachelor’s Degree. He also went on to earn his Master of Arts Degree from Chapman University in 1976. Roy, a Navigator on a KC-135 Refueling Tanker, retired from the Air Force in 1984, having achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
After retiring from the Air Force, Roy began a successful career in the business world. He began his civilian career with American Airlines. He also worked for the McDonnell Douglas Corporation and for Hughes Training Incorporated, the company founded by Howard Hughes. He finished his career at Lockheed Martin Company in 2011.
Survivors include his dear wife, whom he wed on December 22, 1962, Bonnie Jean Wesley Emerson of Fort Worth, TX; sons, Judd (Kathleen) Emerson of Mansfield, TX and Brad (Amy) Emerson of Lakeland, TN; daughter, Ellen (Kendal) Ryter of Hamilton, Montana; brother, Gerald Ray (Carolyn) Emerson of Stanford, KY; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jeffrey Gay Emerson; and sister, Sue Emerson Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Friday, January 22, 2016, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Loren Pennington officiating. Burial will follow in the Willow Springs Cemetery with military honors by the Casey County Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 6-8PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project or to Willow Springs United Methodist Church.
