Robert Gerald Branscum, Sr., 76, of Science Hill, Kentucky, husband of Jemima Keith Branscum, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015 at his residence.

He was born in Somerset, Kentucky on December 15, 1939, son of the late Columbia Branscum and Edna Mae Waddle Gaddis. Robert loved to play his guitar and sing with family. He was a song writer and published three records and one album on CD and three albums on cassette tape. He registered several songs with B.M.I. He loved hunting, fishing, ginseng digging and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Buncombe Baptist Church of Science Hill. He loved Kentucky Wildcats basketball, Cincinnati Reds and was an avid gardener. He raised tomatoes that the whole family enjoyed this Thanksgiving. He wanted his flowers while he could enjoy the beauty and fragrance. He was kind hearted and most of all grateful to God.

He is survived by his wife, Jemima Keith Branscum, whom he married on December 31, 1960, one daughter, Debra Branscum Wilson of Science Hill, sons, Robert G. Branscum, Jr. of Science Hill and Kenneth D. Branscum of Knoxville, TN, three sisters, Ivadene Warren, Joella Wesley and Phyllis Harper, all of Science Hill, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, especially Rick Young, who was just like a son.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Sue Branscum Young and Lorraine Adams and brother, Eugene Pitman.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Science Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 6 PM Monday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
