He was a member of the Rocky Ford Baptist Church. He was a retired farmer and former owner and operator of a saw mill in Boyle County. He also owned and operated Reed’s Grocery Store for many years in the Rocky Ford community. He loved spending time with family and enjoyed playing his guitar. He played baseball and softball for many years for Rocky Ford. He was an avid UK basketball fan.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Verla Peyton Reed.
He is survived by a step-son, Danny (Barbara) Jeffries of Liberty, a step-daughter, Daphne Jeffries Blevins of Somerset, two grandsons Justin (Angela) Jeffries and Adam (Jennifer) Jeffries of Louisville, three great-grandsons, Reed, Grayson and Alex Jeffries and two -great granddaughters, Claire and Ellie Jeffries, one brother, James Reed of Casey County, and many nieces and nephews and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM Thursday by Bro. Matt Johnson at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland. Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 PM Wed. Burial will be at Hustonville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Justin and Adam Jeffries, William Jesse Arvin, A.C. and Shirley Richards and Waitmon Beeler. Honorary pallbearers will be the Rocky Ford Men’s Sunday School Class.
