He was born in the Alcalde Community of Pulaski Co., on February 22, 1920 to the late Neal and Rosie Mounce Colyer of Kentucly. He had 12 siblings. He married Barbara Hill Colyer, from Kentucky, and had a stepdaughter Ramona Dunn. Lyman and Barbara had a daughter, Bonnie Marie Colyer Decker and a son, Michael “Slim” Lyman Colyer. He has 2 grandchildren from his daughter, Bonnie Jean Whitis and Michelle Lynn Whitis, both of Somerset. He has 4 great grandchildren all from Somerset; two from Bonnie Jean; Abigail (Abby) and Micah, and 2 from Michelle; Madison and Colton. He also married Angleina “Angie” Wagoner Colyer, from Ohio, and enjoyed her daughter, Dorothy Coots, from Indiana. Angie was an excellent wife and mother to his children and they were married until her death in 1981.
Lyman is survived by 1 sister, Lois Colyer Erishman, and 1 brother, Harold Colyer, both of Somerset, and a long-time friend and partner Emma Lou Hicks of Tennessee. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He leaves behind family and friends too numerous to name.
Lyman was preceded in death by his wife Angie Colyer, his parents, Neal and Rosie Colyer, 5 brothers, William Bill Colyer, Eugene “Splinterhead” Colyer, Richard “Dick” Colyer, Clyde Colyer, James “Jim” Colyer, and 5 sisters, Nora Colyer Ping, Zada Colyer, Hazel Colyer, McCreary, Roberta “Sug” Colyer Waddle, and Imogene Ona Colyer Denniston. He was also preceded in death by a great grandson Joshua Daniel Whitis Perkins.
Visitation for Mr. Lyman Colyer will be Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Pulaski Funeral Home from 11AM – 1PM.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Thursday at Pulaski Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Clay Hill Cemetery.
