He graduated from Middleburg High School and attended Campbellsville University and Eastern Kentucky University. Marshall was a retiree of IBM/Lexmark, a Kentucky Colonel and a former Richmond City Commissioner. His first Commission race was won by a flip-of-the-coin. His greatest accomplishment was the creation of the Recycling Program.
Marshall is survived by his wife of 52 years, Vivien Durham McAninch; his daughter, Sherri, (Gary) Short of Richmond; his son, Frank, of Casey County; his brother, Johnnie (Wanda) McAninch, of West Chester, OH; his sister Brenda, (Dennis) Brockman of Knoxville; five nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind four granddaughters, Megan Short, Rachel Short, Natalie McAninch, and Catherine McAninch, whom he loved and cherished. He called them his “girls”.
His passion was his family and his work, especially farming. He enjoyed owning and maintaining his rental property and farming his family’s land in Casey County. Marshall was the happiest when he was busy, whether it be farming, gardening, or working on his latest project and especially when he was on his tractor. For decades he was known as the “Apple Man” selling his Casey County Apples in Richmond and Madison County. Everyone knew Marshall as a hard-working man and he enjoyed seeing the results of his labor. But at the same time, he also liked to sit in his favorite chair and take a nap. He loved to travel, having visited all 50 states and several countries with Vivien and his family. He enjoyed watching basketball, cheering on the Cats and the EKU Colonels. He could be found at every EKU home basketball game, sitting in the same seat for more than 40 years.
