Lonus was born in Metcalfe County, KY on December 21, 1922, a son of the late Ethel (Perkins) and Willie Bruton.
After graduating Summer Shade High School in 1941, Lonus attended Draughon's Business College in Nashville, TN. After college, he was drafted and served in WW II for three years. On June 15, 1946, he married Nelda (Broady) Bruton who preceded him in death January 22, 2014. They were married for 67 years. He was also preceded in death by his 3-year-old daughter, Jo Rita.
He was a successful businessman, opening Bruton's Wholesale Supply Company in January 1958. He managed the business with Nelda for 30 years. He also spent many years farming in Mud Lick.
Survivors include one daughter, Rene`, wife of Michael "Doc" Halliday of Tompkinsville, granddaughters, Lauren, wife of Nicholas Carter of Tompkinsville & Lacey, wife of Brady Murley of Bowling Green, one great grandson, Clayton Carter, sister, Helen Smith of Lexington, brothers, Dempsey Bruton and wife Betty of New Castle, IN, Bill Bruton and wife Virginia of Glasgow and Wendell Bruton and wife Janet of Glasgow.
Funeral service at Yokley Trible Funeral Home, Tompkinsville, KY, at 2 PM on Sunday, January 31st, with Father Larry Gelthaus officiating. Entombment Monroe County Memorial Lawn Mausoleum.
Visitation, Saturday 4-9 PM and Sunday 10 AM - 2 PM. at Yokley Trible Funeral Home.
