He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Lone Oak Baptist Church in Hart County. He was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the United States Army as Military Police from 1963 until 1969. He went on to retire from the Department of the Army and as a Civil Service Supervisor in Fort Knox on May 3, 1993.
Survived by his wife of 49 years, Gladys Renae Meredith Avery of Greensburg having united in marriage on October 26, 1973.
Other survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law: Tim Avery of Munfordville, and Patrick and Pam Avery of Greensburg; five grandchildren: Ryan Avery, Makayla Meredith, Rylee Knackstedt, Allye Matney, and Erick Sparks; one great-grandchild: Hudson Meredith; five brothers and sisters-in-law: Walter and Sue Avery of Greensburg, James and Beverly Avery of Sulpher Well, Luther and Joe Avery, Lawrence and Teresa Avery all of Canmer, and Bruce and Brenda Avery of Hudgins Community; a sister: Flossie Jewell of Canmer; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Avery was also preceded in death by a son: Stephan Avery; grandchild: Dakota Avery; daughter-in-law: Shemiah Avery; two brothers and a sister: Roy Avery, William F. Avery, and Poly Rosser; a brother-in-law: Mike Jewell.
The funeral services for Laymon Avery will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Central Time, Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Darnell Cemetery. Bro. Chuck Templeman and Bro.Deon Jewell officiating.
Visitation is requested from 4:30 P.M. until 8 P.M., Central Time, Friday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7 A.M., Saturday until time of the funeral service.
The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, which can be made at the funeral home.
