Ms. Barton was born in Ash County, NC on September 28, 1920 the daughter of Clemmie K. Hartsog Roland and Amos W. Roland. She lived in Street, MD until 1974 and enjoyed working as a meat cutter at Acme Market in Bel Air, retiring after 23-years. Joanna moved to Kentucky with her husband and returned to Maryland again in 2013. Her family was most important to her and she showed her love by making them handmade quilts. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and crocheting. Joanna spent her summers gardening, always canning her harvest to enjoy all year long. She was an extraordinary cook and her biscuits will never be replicated as she made the best biscuits ever. She will be fondly remembered for her strong faith in God and her love and kindness for everyone. Her love for her family was endless.
Joanna was also a longtime member of the Caldwell Chapel.
She is survived by three children, Elva Katherine Carr, Claud James Hilton and Grace Ann Comer; eighteen grandchildren; thirty one great-grandchildren; and thirty great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three children, Blanch Marie Rogers, William Roland Hilton and Malcom Hilton and three siblings, Agnew Pruitt, Claude Rowland and Glen Roland.
A funeral service will begin at 2:00PM on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Darrin Lair officiating. Burial will follow in the Whited Cemetery. Friends may call at the McKinney-Brown Funeral Home on Wednesday from 11:00AM to 2:00PM.
