Born on October 27, 1920, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Elvin and Sophia Whitis Mays. She graduated from Campbellsville College in 1940 with a degree in education and began teaching in a one-room schoolhouse. Mrs. Darnell taught school for thirty-eight years.
Mrs. Darnell was the widow of the late James H. Darnell.
She is survived by a grandson, Steven (Heather) Brown of Liberty; a granddaughter, Jamie (Scott) Price of Liberty; six great-grandsons, Will (Shelby), Noah, Reece, Alex, Adam, and Andrew; a great-granddaughter, Caroline Harrison; and one great-great-grandson, Preston.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Brown; a sister, Velma Griffin; and two brothers, Louis Mays and Robert Mays.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Will Hatter, Noah Brown, Reece Brown, Alex Price, Adam Price, Andrew Price, Scott Price, and Buel Dean McDonald.
Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Liberty United Methodist Church.
