He served his country in Korea from 1952 – 1954. Dennis worked in Indianapolis, Indiana at Hetherton and Burner for 25 years. He retired from Somerset Golf Carts, and was a firefighter at Shopville Stab Fire Department for 30 years.
“Turp” loved car shows, camping, listening to country music and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He attended Pleasant Run Baptist Church t Shortcreek, Kentucky.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 64 years; Burnidean Russell Whitaker; two sons, Keith Allen (and Patty) Whitaker of Somerset, Kentucky and Kevin Lee (and Elizabeth) Whitaker of Somerset, Kentucky; a brother, Bobby Lee (and Pat) Whitaker of Somerset, Kentucky, three grandchildren, Andrew Keith Whitaker, Amber Nicole Whitaker, and Jenna Grace Whitaker all of Somerset, Kentucky; a special sister-in-law, Chet Whitaker; a brother-in-law, Jerry (and Linda) Russell and a host of other relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by; one son who died in infancy, Jackie Whitaker and one brother, Ed "Junior" Whitaker.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February17, 2016 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Sears Cemetery. The following individuals will be serving as pallbearers, Andrew Whitaker, Jeff Smith, Jerry Russell, Jay Hawk, Dewayne Russell, Steve Whitaker, Stephen Russell, and Darwin Harris.
Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 38.
