He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Russell Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Mays formerly worked in maintenance for the Green-Taylor Water Company and had worked with Leftwich Drilling. He was also a Vietnam Veteran having served in the United States Army from June 1966 until June of 1972.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife of 39 years, Freda Anne Robertson Mays of Green County having united in marriage on June 25, 1983.
Other survivors include two sons: Joshua Mays and his spouse, Joshua Westbrook of Pennsylvania, and Jarrod Mays and his wife, Jalyn of Greensburg; a son-in-law: Dewayne Harmon of Greensburg; six grandchildren: Jordon Harmon, Jessica Walters, Colton Moore, Liam Mays, Barrett Mays, and Baiyler Mays all of Green County; a great-granddaughter: Reagan Walters; a brother and sister-in-law: Randy and Sally Mays of Greensburg; a niece and nephew: Brent Mays and Brandy Mays Curry; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Mays was also preceded in death by a daughter: Carol Anne Harmon on May 19, 2022.
There will be graveside services for Carlos Dale “Hooker” Mays held at 3:00 P.M., Central Time, Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at the Russell Cemetery in Green County with full military honors conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard. Bro. Twyman Davis officiating.
The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Gideon Bible Fund, which can be made at the funeral home.
