Doug graduated from Adair County High School in 1961. He then graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1965 and earned his Master’s degree from the University of Louisville in 1966. He was a member of the Clayton Baptist Church in Clayton, GA and was a retired Civil Engineer for Kimley-Horn in West Palm Beach, FL. He was an avid UK basketball fan, loved corvettes and served with Habitat for Humanity in Rabun County, GA.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years Andrea Jennings Latta Coomer of Clayton, GA; three children Janna Furnish (Mark) of Henryville, IN, Bryan Coomer (Kelly) of Chicago, IL and Jennifer Coomer-Adkins (Philip) of Holly Springs, NC; six grandchildren Avery, Kendall, Sydney, Riley, Victor and Naomi; six siblings Ronald Coomer (Pat) of Elizabethtown, KY, Russell Coomer (Pat) of Russell Springs, KY, Linda Shoemaker (Jerry) of Bowling Green, KY, Cathy Cox (Brad) of Columbia, KY, Sheila Keltner (Kenneth) of Bowling Green, KY and Roland Coomer (Terri) of Somerset, KY and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm central time Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Haven Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00am-2:00pm at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.
Bro. Richie Coomer will be officiating and pallbearers will be: Victor Adkins, Neal Clayton, Austin Coomer, Kyle Coomer, Mark Coomer, Ben Keltner and Wes Keltner.
The family request that everyone attending wear a mask or face covering.
