The first home football game against University of the Cumberlands will be live and broadcast digitally on WLCU-TV.
Going digital, which has been mandated by the Federal Communications Commission, will allow households who have a digital antenna, along with their respective service provider, Comcast Cable, Dish, Direct TV, etc., to receive local programming on WLCU which will be located on digital channel 23.0 instead of analog channel 4.
After Sept. 1, there will be no analog signal on Channel 4. In order to receive this local programming, without cable access, viewers need to obtain a digital antenna to be able to receive WLCU-TV.
Jeannie Clark, general manager of WLCU-TV and 88.7 FM The Tiger radio, said the new digital programming will allow many more people to be able to see the many programs produced by the four full-time staff and student employees.
TV programs produced at the station include: “Dialogue on Public Issues,” a public affairs show hosted by Dr. John Chowning, vice president for church and external relations and executive assistant to the president at Campbellsville University; local church programming from First United Methodist Church, Robinson Creek Baptist Church and Campbellsville Baptist Church; “CU in the Word” devotional by Campbellsville University faculty and staff;
Sports shows “The Perry Thomas Show” with Matt Payton, radio program/production director, as host; “The Keith Adkins Show” with Alan Haven, television program/production director, as host; “The Ginger Colvin Show,” with Matt Payton as host;
“CU Outdoors” with Trent Creason, director of student activities and intramurals, as host; “Cooking with Dave,” a cooking show hosted by Dave Walters, vice president for admissions and student services; “CU News Brief,” a once a week newscast produced by mass communication students; as well as locally produced football and basketball games and special events including the university’s weekly chapel services.
Clark said Channel 22 on Comcast Cable is the community access channel, and it will be seen digitally on Channel 23.1. She said announcements can be sent as usual to wlcustudio@gmail.com.
“We are happy that we can now offer local programming to everyone in Taylor County,” she said. “All they need to do is buy a digital antenna from a local retailer. We are pleased to offer quality, informational and educational programming for the community, and we will be expanding our programming options soon.”
“For many without cable this expansion is bringing a new television station to their homes,” said Dr. H. Keith Spears, vice president for graduate and professional studies.
“They will have access to top national and local Christian programs from Kentucky’s only FCC station licensed to a private university.”
A digital antenna, along with other gifts, will be given away during the next couple of weeks. Watch WLCU-TV on Comcast Cable Channel 10 and digital Channel 23.0 for more information.
Clark said anyone having any questions about the new digital conversion should call the station at (270) 789-5210.
