Two Russell Springs men were arrested on drug related charges Tuesday night

Around 9:45 p.m. Deputy Ethan Pike stopped a car on Weston Road for an equipment violation. While approaching the vehicle, Deputy Pike observed the driver making movements that caused the Deputy to believe the driver was attempting to conceal something.

Further investigation resulted in the arrest of Bobby M. Beard, 46, of Russell Springs. Beard was charged with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Meth), Tampering with Physical Evidence and having an Obstructed Windshield. Approximately six grams of Methamphetamine and $1,886 cash was seized as evidence.

Additionally, Michael A. Johnson, 35, of Russell Springs, was arrested on two warrants for failure to appear in court after Deputies observed Johnson in a vehicle near the initial traffic stop. Johnson was also charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Drug Paraphernalia.

Deputy Evan Burton, Deputy Dustin Bunch and Sgt. Mark Cromwell assisted with the investigation and subsequent arrests.

The Russell County Courthouse will be closed Monday, September 4, 2017, in observance of Labor Day. The courthouse will reopen on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at regular business hours.

BARREN RIVER DRUG TASK FORCE ARRESTS ONE ON MULTIPLE DRUG CHARGES

“On Wednesday, August 23rd, the Barren River Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at the residence of 28 year old Jessica York located at 1478 Stafford Rd. in Allen County in reference to a drug investigation.

After Detectives arrived, Ms. York stated that she had just had a wreck and that her vehicle was upside down in a creek. Officers went to the scene and found the vehicle. Several Schedule II prescription pills and drug paraphernalia were found.

Ms. York was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance 1st< 10 D.U. drug unspecified and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was lodged in the Allen County Jail.

On Friday, August 25th, the Barren River Drug Task Force found additional information and another search warrant was obtained for Ms. York’s residence on Stafford Rd.

Detectives discovered a hidden safe which contained approximately 8 grams of crystal meth, approximately 37 grams of processed marijuana, scales, parphernalia, a loaded handgun and cash. Ms. York was additionally charged with trafficking in a controlled substance 1st > than 2 grams methamphetatmine – enhanced due to the firearm, Trafficking in marijuana less than 8 oz and possession of drug paraphernalia. The DTF was assisted in the investigation by the Allen County S.O. and the Scottsville Police Dept.”

The Unemployment Rate for the Lake Cumberland Area went up over the Past Year

For July 2017, the Lake Cumberland Area Development District unemployment rate rose from 6.0% in July 2016 to 6.9% in July 2017.
  • Russell County unemployment rate went up from 7.3% in 2016 to 7.7% in 2017.
  • Casey Counties unemployment went up from 4.6% in 2016 to 5.5% in 2017
  • Cumberland County up from 5.0% in 2016 to 5.7% in 2017
  • Adair County up from 6.8% in 2016 to 7.5% in 2017
For the month of July 2017, the national unemployment rate was 4.6%; the rate for the Commonwealth of Kentucky was 5.9% in 2017.

Attorney General Andy Beshear Issued a Scam Alert Today to help Kentucky Families Avoid Falling Victim to IRS Scams

Beshear said his office issued a scam alert after receiving multiple IRS scam reports over the past 24 hours.

Reports are currently coming in from western Kentucky, but all Kentuckians can avoid falling victim to the scam if they remember these tips.

The IRS will never: Call if you owe taxes without first sending you a bill in the mail. Require that you pay your taxes only by credit or debit card numbers over the phone. Threaten to bring in police or other agencies to arrest you for not paying. Email asking for personal information. The IRS website also provides a list of current scams that are targeting taxpayers.

Kentuckians interested in staying ahead of scammers can sign up to receive Scam Alerts from Beshear’s office by texting the words KYOAG Scam to GOV311 (468311), or visit www.ag.gov/scams to sign up with your mobile phone number or email address.

A Marion County Man was Arrested on Drug Charges in Russell County

An investigation into a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church late Saturday night resulted in the arrest of a Marion County man and the seizure of several grams of Methamphetamine.

While patrolling the Sano – Mt. Olive community, Deputy Evan Burton observed a 2002 Saturn car in the church parking lot just before 9:00 p.m. After making contact with the occupants of the vehicle, Deputy Burton utilized his partner, K-9 Matt. Sub-sequent to K-9 Matt alerting to the presence of the odor of illegal drugs, Deputy Burton discovered three baggies containing Methamphetamine on one of the passengers.

Emory L. Miller, 26, of Lebanon, was arrested and charged with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Meth), Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Miller was processed and lodged in the Russell County Detention Center.

Sheriff's Dept. respond to injury accident on Hwy 55N Monday evening

On 8-28-17 Adair County EMS along with the Adair County Sheriffs Office responded to an injury Accident on HWY North 55.  Mrs Marian Melton of Columbia was operating a 2013 Nissan Altima south bound on HWY 55, when Ms Sherri Giles of Campbellsville Ky operating a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am attempted a u-turn and pulled out in to the path of Mrs Melton.

 Melton and her passenger Mr Rodger Melton where injured due to the collision.  Mrs Marian Melton was treated on scene and taken to TJ Health Columbia for treatment of her injuries sustained in the accident. Mr Rodger Melton was transported by Adair County EMS and was flown out to University of Louisville hospital. Both Ms Sherri Giles and her passenger Mr Drew Cato refused transport by EMS. Adair County Search and Rescue also assisted on scene.

Campbellsville University Organ Concert Series for 2017-18

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY (08/29/2017)- CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville University's music department will hold her 10th Annual Noon Organ Recital Series beginning Sept. 12 for the 2017-18 academic year. 

All concerts, all on Tuesdays, are free for the public to attend and begin at 12:20 p.m. ending at 12:50 p.m. for those attending to return to work. More information on specific concerts will be released approximately a month before the show. 

The series provides organ music from the 1894 Farrand and Votey Organ in Ransdell Chapel which is enlarged to 51 ranks by Moeller, Pilcher and Milnar Organ Companies.

One concert, on Nov. 14, will be in Our Lady Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 429 N. Central Ave., Campbellsville, Ky., on the church's 1875 Pomplitz Organ which was restored to its original condition of 10 ranks by B. Rule Organ Company. The church is located beside the Gosser Fine Arts Center, 210 University Drive, Campbellsville.

The other concerts will be in Ransdell Chapel, 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville.

The concerts follow: Sept. 12- Nevalyn Moore, Professor Emerita of Organ, Campbellsville University, Campbellsville, Ky.; 

Oct. 3 - David Lamb, councilor for membership, American Guild of Organists, director of music, Trinity United Methodist Church, New Albany, Ind.; Nov. 14- Mark DeAlba, organist, Central Baptist Church, Lexington, Ky.;
Feb. 6, 2018 - James Sperry, professor emeritus of organ, Greensburg, Ky.; 

March 6 - John A. Deaver, director of music/organist, Trinity Episcopal Church, Covington, Ky.;

 April 10 – Dr. Wesley Roberts, professor of music at Campbellsville University, with faculty from the School of Music at Campbellsville University. 

The university will hold two other concerts, not among the Noon Organ Series, at 8 p.m. in Randsell Chapel. Roberts will give an organ concert Jan. 30, and Kevin Vaughn, director of music and organist at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in South Bend, Ind., will perform Feb. 27.

Campbellsville University to hold Family Weekend Sept. 8-9

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY (08/29/2017) -- CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University will hold her annual Family Weekend Friday, Sept. 8 and Saturday, Sept. 9 on campus at 1 University Drive, Campbellsville, Ky.

Darryl Peavler, director of alumni relations at Campbellsville University, said this special weekend is a time for parents and relatives to visit their son or daughter at the university and to be entertained by several events happening on campus.


Peavler said there will a Pre-show Party at 6:30 p.m. in Ransdell Chapel at 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville, before the traditional event, The Dave & Ed Show begins at 7:30 p.m.

There will be music, food, prizes and more at the Pre-show Party. You can also you're your picture made with Clawz, the university's mascot.

This year, the cast of Tuesday Night Live (CU's spin off of Saturday Night Live) will join Dave (Walters) & Ed (Pavy) on the stage for an "evening of side-splitting comedy," Peavler said.

On Saturday, at 9 a.m., there will be a Family Weekend Motorcycle Ride through the Taylor County countryside with Ed Pavy, director of campus ministries.

The ride will depart from Books n Beans at the Montgomery Library, 116 University Drive, Campbellsville, at 9 a.m.

On Saturday, beginning at 10:30 a.m. and continuing until noon, you are invited to More Than a Brunch in Winters Dining Hall, 411 N. Columbia Ave., Campbellsville, in the E. Bruce Heilman Student Complex. The brunch is available for $6.50 to parents and guests.

You will be able to visit with Dr. Michael V. Carter, president of the university, and members of the faculty and staff. Campbellsville University organizations will be set up to provide information about services available on and off campus.

The Chowning Art Shop, 503 N. Columbia Ave., Campbellsville, will be open Saturday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The shop features artwork from Campbellsville University faculty, staff and alumni.

At 12:01 p.m., the Fighting Tigers Football Team will play Warner University on Citizens Bank Field at Tiger Stadium at 204 Tiger Way, Campbellsville.
