Lindsey Wilson women’s soccer scored twice over a two-minute span in the first half and never looked back in a 5-0 win over Kansas Wesleyan on Monday in the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship’s Second Round at the Orange Beach Sportsplex.

The No. 1-seeded Blue Raiders (18-1-2) advance to Wednesday’s national quarterfinals against the winner of eighth-seeded Westmont (Calif.) and ninth-seeded Grace (Ind.).

Lindsey Wilson controlled the majority of the offensive play en route to out-shooting the Coyotes (14-5-2) 18-4, including 10-1 in shots on goal.

Lyana Perez found the back of the net twice and Carola Schneider scored her first goal of the season to help Lindsey Wilson win its seventh straight national tournament game. The defending national champions improve to 38-13-2 all-time in the national tournament, including 13-2 in the round of 16.

Lindsey Wilson’s Isobel Dalton and Amanda Kander scored one minute and 45 seconds apart in the 17th and 18th minutes to give the Blue Raiders an early 2-0 lead.

Dalton blasted in her seventh goal of the season from 20 yards out for the 1-0 lead. Emma Skaremo started the scoring play as she poked the ball back to Dalton who sent a strike over the head of three Kansas Wesleyan defenders and into the right side of the goal past diving goalkeeper Rachel Cardwell.

Kander doubled the Blue Raiders’ score from point-blank range with her 11th goal of the season.
Skaremo once again orchestrated the Lindsey Wilson goal as she dribbled through traffic before playing it back to Kander who was camped just outside the six-yard box. Kander took the pass and blasted it with her left foot into a small window inside the near post for the 2-0 lead. Skaremo now has a team-high 12 assists this season.

With the Blue Raiders up 2-0, Lindsey Wilson just missed on three opportunities over the next 15 minutes to pad their lead. Kander and Shelby Austin each hit the post and Dalton was turned away by one of Cardwell’s four saves during the match.

In the 32nd minute, Fabienne Rochaix and Lyana Perez hooked up to extend the Lindsey Wilson lead to 3-0. The Blue Raiders improve to a perfect 11-0 this season when scoring at least three goals in the game.

Rochaix dribbled through a pair of Coyote defenders near the end line and centered the ball to Perez who one-timed the pass into the back of the net from five yards out for the 3-0 lead.
Perez added a second goal in the game and her 17th of the season in the 56th minute to give Lindsey Wilson a 4-0 lead. Yvonne Ploeg set up the game’s fourth goal with a pass from three yards deep in the penalty area onto a charging Perez just outside the box. She sent a laser to lower left of the goal for the 80th Lindsey Wilson goal of the season.

Schneider closed out the scoring in the 79th minute with a penalty kick after Delfina Santellan was fouled in the penalty area.

Johanna Henriksson and Megan Rauch combined for the Blue Raiders’ 13th shutout of the season and sixth straight. Henriksson posted the lone Lindsey Wilson save in her 71 minutes of play. Rauch played the final 18:37 without facing a shot.

The Blue Raiders advance to face the Westmont-Grace winner at 11 a.m. CT on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at the Orange Beach Sportsplex.

“Sock It To the Homeless, Warm Feet From Warm Hearts” is a new campaign created by the Carver School of Social Work for this upcoming winter season.

The Louisville Campus is asking for help from the entire student body and staff by collecting donations of new socks to put on the feet of the homeless in Louisville. The socks can be one pair or one pack - the amount doesn’t matter as long as the items are new. They will also be accepting hats, gloves, and scarves as the students become more aware of the extra need in Louisville.

There will be decorative boxes at the entrance of each building to deposit donations. At the end of the semester, the Carver School of Social Work will take the boxes to Wayside Christian Mission so that there will plenty of supplies as they prepare for winter.

“The Louisville Social Work students wanted to bring awareness to everyone, reminding others that everybody does not have loved ones and friends that can lend a helping hand. The students expressed a concern that they knew during this time of year these items arehard to come by for the homeless and they wanted to do something to help,” Renee Sartin, Campbellsville University social work professor, said.

Adair County, Kentucky has produced many individuals who have left indelible marks on this earth. One of those was Melvin Alvah Traylor, born at Breeding in 1878, the first of seven children of James Milton Traylor and Kitty Frances Harvey Traylor.

Melvin gained a moderate education in the schools of Adair County and taught school for a time before leaving for Texas in 1898. He studied law and was admitted to the bar at Hillsboro, Texas, in 1901. After practicing law for some time, he entered upon the business of banking, in 1908, and was made vice president of a bank at Ballinger, Texas. After a banking merger the yext year, he became president.

As a banker, Mr. Traylor advanced in his chose career and was overseer of various banking institutions in the United States and was chose President of the American Bankers' Association in 1926. By 1931 he was leading Chicago's largest bank, the First Union Trust and Savings Bank. He was a strong supporter of the World Bank and was a member of the U.S. delegation when the Bank of International Settlements was created.

Mr. Traylor understood the ramification of poor banking practices and was outspoken on the financial causes of the Great Depression and for his views gained national attention. Largely due to this, he was a hopeful for the Democratic Party's nomination for President of the United States in the months leading up to the national convention of 1932. Franklin D. Roosevelt secured the nomination for President that year and went on to serve into his fourth term.

Melvin A. Traylor, farmer, teacher, and banker from Adair County, Kentucky, devoted much of his life to the betterment of the nation. He was Trustee of the Newberry Library, Chicago; Northwestern University; and Berea College; as well as president of the Shedd Aquarium Society; and president of the American Bankers' Association. The Time magazine issues of 30 July 1928 and 21 November 1932 featured Mr. Traylor on the cover and numerous Time articles referenced his influences on financial circles over the years.

He battled pheumonia at the end of his life and died in Chicago, Illinois on 14 November 1934.

A short talk on the life and works of M.A. Traylor will be presented by Mike Watson at the Adair County Genealogical Society's monthly meeting on December 7, 2015, at the Adair County Public Library, Columbia, KY. For more information contact the library...
