State Auditor Adam Edelen's report on Somerset found a city where rules were blatantly ignored and employees who spoke up faced retaliation. The report found the city had not competitively bid $280,000 in contracts and was hiring and paying personnel that had not been approved by the city council. Edelen's report also found that a former city clerk discovered that the budget director took $3,000 from the city, using half of it to buy UK football season tickets.
Edelen's report is being forwarded the Attorney General's office along with the Department of Revenue, Department of Labor, Department of Agriculture and the City Board for Ethics for review.
