BC GRAND JURY INDICTMENTS

A recent session of the Barren County Grand Jury has returned the following indictments:

23 year old Marlon Tanner Stout and 34 year old Kelly Turner Houchens, both of Glasgow were included on a single indictment.  Both were indicted for Persistent Felony Offender, Receiving Stolen Property.  Additionally, Stout was indicted on ten counts:  Assault 3rd Degree, Fleeing Or Evading Police (Motor Vehicle), three counts of Criminal Mischief, Operating A Motor Vehicle While License Revoked/Suspended For DUI, Speeding, Failure To Wear Seatbelt, Failure To Signal and Disregarding A Stop Sign.  Houchens was indicted on an additional count of Complicity To Fleeing Or Evading Police (Motor Vehicle).

60 year old Douglas Pennycuff and 22 year old Vanna Danielle Furbush, both of Cave City, were included on a single indictment.  Both were indicted on Possession Of A Controlled Substance, with Pennycuff’s being the 3rd Or More Offense and Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia.  Furbush was also indicted on one count of No Operators License and Pennycuff was indicted on one count of Permitting Unlicensed Operator To Operate Motor Vehicle.

30 year old Jonathan Antonio Kirk, of Glasgow, was indicted on two counts:  Failure To Comply With Sex Offender Registration and Failure To Notify Address Change To The Department Of Transportation.

26 year old Miranda Kay Phillips, of Glasgow, indicted on two counts:  Burglary 2nd Degree and Theft By Unlawful Taking.

36 year old Malcom E. Booher, of Canmer, was indicted on one count of Theft Of Identity Of Another Without Consent..

46 year old Dejuan Childress, of Glasgow, 26 year old Brian Parnell of Horse Cave and 35 year old Amanda Harlow, of Center were included on a single indictment.  Each were indicted on counts of Possession Of A Controlled Substance, Drug Paraphernalia and Possession Of Marijuana.  Additionally, Childress was indicted on one count of Menacing.  Harlow was indicted for Persistent Felony Offender and Trafficking In A Controlled Substance.

26 year old Cameron Charles Kendall, of Glasgow, was indicted on four counts:  Trafficking In Marijuana, Drug Paraphernalia, Possession Of An Open Alcoholic Beverage Container In A Motor Vehicle and Alcohol Intoxication In A Public Place.

19 year old Madison Marie Hall, of Glasgow, was indicted on three counts of Unlawful Transaction With A Minor.

23 year old Jacob Chandler Gossett, of Glasgow, was indicted on four counts:  Trafficking In Marijuana, Possession Of A Controlled Substance, Drug Paraphernalia and Persistent Felony Offender.

44 year old Richard Thomas Bradley, of Glasgow, was indicted on four counts:  Possession Of A Firearm By A Convicted Felon, Possession Of A Controlled Substance, Drug Paraphernalia and Persistent Felony Offender.

34 year old David Dale Dugard, of Glasgow, was indicted on three counts:  Fleeing Or Evading Police (On Foot), Public Intoxication and Persistent Felony Offender.

27 year old Chasity R. Smith, of Nicholasville, was indicted on three counts:  Theft Of Identity Of Another Without Consent, Public Intoxication and Persistent Felony Offender.

29 year old Joshua Todd Clemmons, of Etoile, was indicted on two counts:  Possession Of A Controlled Substance and Public Intoxication.

21 year old Joey Lee Price, of Cave City, was indicted on one count of Assault 2nd Degree.

35 year old Michael William Berube, of Alliance, Ohio, was indicted one count of Custodial Interference.

AC Public Library's Summer Reading Program

The Adair County Public Library Summer Reading Program has a summer of fun planned for kids of all ages. We will meet every Tuesday at 11:00 am for events featuring, animals, magic, chemistry, movies and ice-cream. Our first program kicks off June 5th at 11:00 am at Adair County Primary Center 158 Casey Cir, Columbia, KY 42728 with Animal Tales: Born to be wild! This is a fun, educational program for all school age children featuring live animals. Come in to get up close and personal with these creatures of the wild and receive 2 free books along with your Summer Reading Events Calendar! If you are unable to make this first program, no problem! Stop by the library anytime through the summer to register and join in the fun. 25 ADAIR COUNTY RESIDENTS RECEIVE DEGREES FROM LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE

Twenty five Adair County residents recently graduated from Lindsey Wilson College.

The 25 area residents were among 218 students who received undergraduate or graduate degrees at the college’s 107th commencement ceremony, held May 12th in Biggers Sports Center.

The 25 area residents who received degrees from Lindsey Wilson were:

Members of the second half of Lindsey Wilson College's Class of 2018 were encouraged to challenge themselves, dream big and to “not settle for what is realistic” at Saturday morning's commencement ceremony.

Those were the words LWC alumnus, Honorable Michael Futrell ’07 delivered at the college’s 107th commencement ceremony, held Saturday morning in Biggers Sports Center. 

“As I stand up here and look across this room I see the different individuals sitting out here and it excites me because you have your whole life in front of you,” said Futrell, who also received an honorary doctorate from the liberal arts college. “This is just the beginning. Don’t get bogged down by what other people tell you can not be done. Don’t limit yourself to what you can become.”

“Challenge yourself and whatever your dreams are right now – I want you to dream bigger. I want you to go beyond because so many times in life I have heard people say ‘Michael we just need you to be realistic,’” Futrell said.  “And I laugh because if I only believed in what people told me was realistic, my life would not be a possibility.”

LWC awarded an honorary doctorate to Futrell.

Lindsey Wilson awarded 218 degrees at this year’s spring commencement – 209 undergraduate degrees and 9 graduate degrees. 

Founded in 1903, Lindsey Wilson is a distinctive liberal arts college affiliated with the Kentucky Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. Lindsey Wilson offers a bachelor of arts degree in 23 career areas, a bachelor of science degree in two areas, and master’s degrees in three career areas.

SOMERSET MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH A STABBING

Pulaski County Sheriff Greg Speck reports that Somerset man was arrested by deputies after a stabbing incident at 1:20 AM Tuesday morning, May 29, 2018.

Deputies responded to a 911 call from 122 Pine Hill Lane approximately 9 miles East of Somerset.  Upon arrival at the residence, Sergeant Richard Smith located the victim of an assault, Desiree Marie Jimenez-Rossado, age 24 of the same address.  The victim advised officers that her former boyfriend forced his way into the residence where he stole her telephone. Additionally he struck her several times on the head and stabbed her at least three times on the arm and shoulder, according to her statement.  She was treated at the scene by Pulaski EMS personnel and transported to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The perpetrator, identified by the victim as Elmer D. Ramos-Ocasio, age 22 of 2475 Barnsburg Road, Somerset, Kentucky had left the scene of the incident in a Chevrolet Malibu bearing temporary license plates.

Approximately an hour later, Deputy Steven Alexander observed an automobile fitting the description of the vehicle involved in the incident on South Highway 27 near Langdon Street.  Deputy Alexander activated his emergency equipment to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle refused to stop and proceeded south on Highway 27 to the intersection with Oak Hill Road where the suspect was taken into custody by deputies with the assistance of officers of the Somerset Police Department.

Elmer D. Ramos-Ocasio was lodged in the Pulaski County Detention on the following charges:  1. Assault, 1st. Degree-Domestic Violence. 2. Burglary, 1st Degree. 3. Fleeing or Evading Police, 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle).  4. Resisting Arrest.

RUSSELL CO. MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT

An accident Friday involving a motorcycle and a utility line seriously injured a Russell Springs man.

The Russell County Sheriff's Department tells us 21 year old William “Colton” Hurt was southbound on U.S. 127 on a 2017 Honda motorcycle when he came across a utility line, a few feet off of the pavement. Hurt was struck in the neck area, knocking him off the motorcycle, onto the pavement.

Hurt was treated on scene by Russell County EMT's, then transported to EMS headquarters where he was airlifted to the U.K. Medical Center. He was released late Saturday and continues home treatment while awaiting surgery.

That accident occurred around 12 noon Friday about 4 miles south of Jamestown and remains under investigation.

CASEY CO. MAN ARRESTED IN RUSSEL CO.

A Casey County man is facing numerous charges locally including drug trafficking.

Ronald J. Sharp, 41, of Liberty, was taken into custody late Saturday night at the Springs Motel in Russell Springs by Russell County Deputy, Dustin Bunch, following an investigation that began as a disturbance complaint. 

Sharp was initially arrested on an outstanding warrant but further investigation resulted in charges of Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (meth), Possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia.

Just over two grams of "crystal meth" and a set of digital scales were found in a room being used by Sharp.

He was lodged in the Russell County Jail.

PULASKI CO. MURDER INVESTIGATION

The Pulaski County Major Crimes Task Force, comprised of officers from the Kentucky State Police, Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, Somerset Police Department and the Burnside Police Department, is continuing its investigation of the homicide of a Burnside, Kentucky man.

The victim, Arlie Owens, age 87 of Perkins Drive, Burnside, Kentucky was discovered by Deputy Scott West of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office on Friday morning at the victim's residence.  The body of the deceased was transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Frankfort for an autopsy on Saturday morning May 26, 2018.

The Major Crimes Task Force is asking for the public's assistance in locating a missing pickup truck owned by the victim.  The vehicle is a White 2001 Ford Ranger (single cab) with Kentucky License Plate number 993-XWT.

If you see this truck, do not approach or make contact with the vehicle operator.  Please notify one of the law enforcement agencies listed above or your local law enforcement agency.

Taylor County accident sends three to the hospital

Two people were flown to a Louisville hospital after a two vehicle accident in Taylor County Saturday, May 26th. According to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office the accident happened when a 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck operated by 25 year old Sterling Duckworth of Campbellsville collided with a 1997 Ford pickup truck operated by 34 year old Joshua Gaulke of Buffalo, Kentucky. Gaulke and another occupant in his pickup, 43 year old Heather Glenn of Buffalo, Kentucky, were flown from the scene to University of Louisville hospital. Duckworth was taken to Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville with possible internal injuries. Another occupant in the Duckworth pickup stated that they were not injured. According to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office the collision took place around 6:30 P.M. Eastern time at the junction of Chaney Pike Road and Highway 744 in Taylor County.
