The Russell County Grand Jury met this week for their regular monthly session and handed up indictments against three individuals, according to court records.

The following were indicted by the grand jury:
• Brenda C. Marsaw, 33, was charged with theft of identity, a class D felony, theft by deception over $500, a class D felony, and with being a persistent felony offender, 2nd degree.
• Jonathan Huddleston, 29, was charged with flagrant non-support, a class D felony.
• Dana Carter, 45, was charged with bail jumping, 1st degree, a class D felony, and with being a persistent felony offender, 1st degree.

WJRS would like to remind everyone that an indictment is only an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial, at which time their guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

Congressman Comer Issues Statement On Impeachment Votes

12/19/2019

Congressman James Comer released the following statement after voting against articles of impeachment against President Trump:

“Since the beginning of this impeachment inquiry, it’s been disheartening to see the partisan, divisive way in which Democrats have carried out this entire process. House Democrats have been trying to impeach the President ever since the day he took office as part of a baseless attempt to undo the will of 63 million Americans who voted for President Trump. These articles were written and built on a report that was drafted with biased presumptions, cherry-picked witnesses, and “facts” that are vastly disputed. The President did not commit any impeachable offenses, and it’s clear for all to see through the now very well-known phone call transcript. This sets a concerning precedent for “impeachable offenses” moving forward, and I wholeheartedly oppose these baseless articles of impeachment against President Trump.”

Thank You from Adair County Emergency Management

12/19/2019

What a year with all the exercises, training, planning, storms, projects, and flooding.  Lots of things are happening in the County of Adair and with Adair County Emergency Management.  Some of the highlights are the new Backup EOC located on Campbellsville Road and the addition of Mr. Chad Wheet, in October, as a Deputy Emergency Management Director.

This morning, while preparing for an afternoon meeting with the Local and Regional Red Cross, I began to think of how fortunate I am as a local representative.  We know it takes everyone to make great things happen including having the support of the County Fiscal Court and the community.  With that said, I must mention that without the support of the staff of the Adair County Emergency Management Agency we would not be able to serve the community at our current level.

The four staff members of Adair County Emergency Management have a combined experience of over 145 years in various first responder roles.  Obviously, some of this time overlaps as we have filled multiple roles throughout our careers but 45 years of EMS experience, 56 years of Fire and Rescue experience and 44 years of law enforcement experience are represented in the attached photo.  I am very proud of our group, what we have accomplished to date and our current plans.

I want to take the time to formally thank the staff and the Citizens of Adair County for your support to Adair County Emergency Management.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!
