​A Taylor County grand jury has indicted three Casey County women on Burglary charges.
 
CRYSTAL G. CRUSE, 697 Carrsasser Rd., Liberty:  Burglary-3rd Degree, Theft by Unlawful Taking (under $500), & Persistent Felony Offender-2nd Degree.
 
ANNA E. WETHINGTON, 429 Cherry Lane, Liberty:  Burglary-3rd Degree, & Theft by Unawful Taking (under $500).
 
VICKI JO MIDDLETON, 226 Creston Watertower Rd., Liberty:  Burglary-3rd Degree, Theft by Unlawful Taking (under $500), & Persistent Felony Offender-1st Degree.

Cumberland Parkway Accident closed lanes for more than 10 hrs. today

Edmonton, KY (March 29, 2018) Kentucky State Police investigated a two vehicle injury collision this morning at 5:01am CT on the Cumberland Parkway near the Metcalfe, Adair County Line, resulting in the parkway being closed for more than 10 hours.
 
Preliminary investigations show 58 year-old Randy Johnson of Glasgow was operating a 2017 Volvo traveling east on the parkway.  Johnson for an unknown reason lost control of his vehicle entering the median traveling into the west bound lanes.  Johnson’s vehicle traveled off the roadway striking an earth embankment leaving his trailer crossways in the roadway.  47 year-old William Davis of Madisonville was operating a 2010 Freightliner traveling west on the parkway when he struck the trailer trapping him in his vehicle.  Davis was extricated from the vehicle by the Adair County and Metcalfe County Fire and Rescue Squads.  Johnson and Davis were wearing their seat belts and were transported to T. J. Samson Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 
 
Sergeant Randy Honeycutt is investigating the collision and was assisted on scene by the Metcalfe County Sherriff’s Office, Fire and Rescue, Adair County Fire and Rescue, and Barren-Metcalfe County EMS.

Adair County Sheriff’s Department Arrests Man After Traffic Stop

Sheriff Harrison Moss reports that on March, 28th at approximately 5:00am, the Adair County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a suspicious vehicle at Betty’s OK country cooking. Adair County Deputy Josh Durbin responded and located the vehicle driving down Keltner Road. Durbin conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and placed the passenger, 39 year old Freddy Burress under arrest for three outstanding warrants of arrest out of Taylor County. Once Burress was taken to the Adair County Jail, it was found that he had concealed a small bag of suspected meth in his clothes. He then attempted to destroy the bag of meth by eating and flushing it, but was unsuccessful. Buress was then charged with possession of methamphetamine, tampering with physical evidence, and promoting contraband. Deputy Durbin is the investigating officer and was assisted in by Columbia Police officer Jordan Dean, Deputy Brandon Hitch and Jail Deputy Diorian Coleman.

Update-Cumberland Parkway Closed in Metcalfe County Due to Injury Collision

​Edmonton, KY (March 29, 2018) Kentucky State Police are still on the scene of an injury collision on the Cumberland Parkway at the Adair County, Metcalfe County Line involving two semi-trucks.  Both east bound lanes are blocked with one west bound lane being blocked.  The estimated time to open the roadway has been extended for three more hours.  Motorist are urged to take alternate routes if traveling from Edmonton to Columbia.  A detour has been established using KY80 between Edmonton and Columbia. 
 
Further information will follow as it becomes available.

MOTHER ARRESTED AFTER JUVENILE CALLS 911 STATED HE WAS ALONE

Glasgow Police Officer Wesley Hicks responded to 118 –B Olivia Drive just after 4pm on Tuesday after the 911 center received a call from a juvenile stating that he was home alone and was scared.

After arrival to the residence the juvenile let Officer Hicks in the home and the juvenile said he didn’t know how to reach his mother and that she had left him alone on several occasions and he was scared to be alone. He told the officer that sometimes he had to fix his own food and that no one had been home since the school bus had dropped him off.   The mother, 33 year old Ana Domingo was contacted and she stated she didn’t know that she couldn’t leave him alone.

Officer Hicks walked through the residence with Domingo and noticed the food in the refrigerator was molded and open alcoholic beverage containers were lying in the floor accessible to the juvenile. Domingo was arrested and transported to the Barren County Jail.  Social Services took the juvenile into protective custody and also stated that they had an active case on Domingo for the same issue.   Domingo was charged with Wanton Endangerment- 1stDegree and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.

Church St. in Columbia was blocked after gunshots were heard - Update from Officers

Early this morning, several gunshots were heard on Church St.,  upon arrival of the Columbia Police Department and the Adair County Sheriff's Dept. the street was blocked  from through traffic until their investigation was completed.  More will be published when we receive the report from the City Police or the Sheriff's Dept. As of now one is arrested and one was transferred to the hospital.

Update:
Columbia Police Department is currently investigating an incident that resulted in one man shot.

The incident occurred at 200 church street when 28 year old Donte Sangster went to the home of 46 year old Micheal Ed Dial.  During the encounter Sangster was shot in the neck and he was flown to University of Louisville and currently in critical condition.  Micheal Ed Dial is with officers but not under arrest and cooperative with the investigation.

Police Chief Cross is on scene along with multiple CPD Officers and deputy sheriffs.  The investigation is being handled by CPD Sgt. Murphy.

More will be released at a later time as investigation allows.

ACCUSED OF THE 2016 MURDER OF A CAVE CITY WOMAN, CLARK SMITH’S TRIAL IS SET TO BEGIN JULY 31ST

53 year old Clark Smith appeared in Barren Circuit yesterday afternoon before the honorable Judge John Alexander.  Clark is accused of the murder of Kristen Edwards.  In mid July of 2016, Edward’s dismembered body was found by a fisherman, in a large canvas bag in the Johnson Springs area of Green River in Hart County.

Monday afternoon’s appearance was for a hearing on whether or not to suppress Smith’s statement to law enforcement, where he confessed to the murder of Edwards.  That hearing has now been set for May 1st.

Dr. Eric Y. Drogin was also in court with the defense, he is a Clinical Psychologist and has worked in numerous areas, including forensic psychology.  The request made by the defense was to move Smith’s trial date, initially set for next month, so that Dr. Drogin was available to testify.  The trial is now set to begin July 31st.

Smith appeared with his attorneys Greg Berry and lucrecia Hudson.  The prosecution is being led by Commonwealth’s Attorney John Gardner.
