The Gatton Academy is housed on the Western Kentucky University campus and acceptance is limited to 100 students per year. The academy provides a rich living and learning environment designed especially for academically talented high school students and features advanced learning opportunities and research projects yet provides enrichment for the students social life as well with clubs, organizations, and community service.
When I asked Zach about how his parents felt about him being accepted and leaving home. He said “they are proud, but I think Mom will miss me.” For those of us who know his sweet and loving mother, there is no question Zack --- she will miss you. When I spoke with Tammy briefly this morning, she was proud and excited then started praising his teachers and all those in the district who had helped Zach reach his fullest potential and achieve this opportunity. The thing she said that stood out the most for me was “people have no idea just how great our teachers, counselors, and staff are in this school system” what better endorsement could anyone ask for.
Our district is so proud to have played a role in the development of Zach’s love of Math and Science and wish him only the best. Zach will start his new life at Gatton in August 2016.
