The collision occurred at 4:13 p.m. on KY 92, aka Esto Road, about one mile west of the Russell County Airport when a westbound 2001 Ford Explorer operated by Kelly Perez Russell, 35, of Russell Springs, began crossing the center line, resulting in Alex Selby, 23, of Russell Springs, steering his eastbound 2004 GMC truck to the left in an attempt to avoid a collision. The two vehicles struck nearly head-on with both sustaining extensive damage.
Russell was treated at the scene by members of the Russell County EMS and then transported by ambulance to the nearby airport where she was airlifted by emergency helicopter to the U.K. Medical Center for treatment of numerous injuries.
Selby was transported by Russell County EMS personnel to the Russell County Hospital for treatment and observation. He was later released with follow-up treatment scheduled for later this week.
The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing by Sheriff Clete McAninch and Det. Joey Hoover. Several members of the Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department also responded and assisted at the scene.
