Held in Biggers Sports Center, the event included more than four dozen departmental and college-wide awards. The top graduating senior was named, two new John B. Begley Scholars were awarded and the top professors of the year were recognized. The Student Government Association organization of the year was also recognized.
LWC history senior Hannah McCandless of Elizabethtown, Ky., received the President's Award, which is presented to the graduating senior who in the opinion of the LWC president best embodies the LWC mission.
Two were named as returning John B. Begley Scholars. Bethany Harting, a psychophysiology junior from Leitchfiled, Ky., and Christy Antle, an education junior from Russell Springs, Ky. The John B. Begley Scholarship is the college’s most prestigious undergraduate scholarship.
Two faculty members were honored. Associate Professor of Journalism David Goguen was named Teacher of the Year by the LWC SGA; and Assistant Professor of Human Services and Counseling Myra Ford received the Exemplary Teacher Award from The United Methodist Church Division of Higher Education.
The LWC Campus Kitchen, whose mission is to empower students to fight hunger, was named the top student organization by the LWC Student Government Association. The LWC Campus Kitchen launched in fall 2016.
Several student groups and academic honor societies were also recognized. Particularly noteworthy was the presentation by Associate Director of Music Gerald Chafin. The Lindsey Wilson Singers were honored with a letter of appreciation and gratitude from Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin for their selection as Kentucky’s delegation to the National Festival of the States for the 75th commemoration of the attack on Pearl Harbor in October 2016.
LWC's 105th commencement ceremony will be at 10 a.m. CT, Saturday, May 13, in Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive.
