The story of the game was the Blue Raiders (5-0, 2-0 MSC Bluegrass Division) defense as Luke Bowman put in a shift today recording 10 tackles, two and a half sacks, and an interception in the game. In addition to Bowman’s efforts, the Blue Raider defense recorded 11 tackles for a loss for a total of 57 lost yards on the Tigers offense including eight sacks on the Georgetown quarterback.
With all that defensive pressure, Georgetown was held to only two first downs in the first half and didn’t record a first down until the second quarter with only a minute on the clock. Overall, the defense limited the Tigers to only nine first downs and 113 yards of total offense today and didn’t allow the Tigers to convert a single third down effort.
Lindsey Wilson posted 295 yards of total offense on the afternoon rushing for 101 yards and passing for 194 yards. Cameron Dukes went 17 of 30 throwing for 189 yards and three touchdowns while Jaylen Boyd rushed for 59 yards and a touchdown.
After a long-lasting defensive showdown from both teams through a majority of the first quarter, Dimitrius Patterson opened the scoring for Lindsey Wilson in the final moments of the opening quarter after Dukes found the wide receiver in the corner of the endzone with a well lofted pass to make it a 7-0 ballgame.
Things got even better for the Blue Raiders in the second quarter as Bowman turned on the jets for a 27-yard run to make it 14-0 with Dukes adding another touchdown minutes later, leaping over the Georgetown defense on the goal line to make it 21-0 at the half.
The defensive show was back on in the third quarter with the Blue Raiders facing a motivated Tigers side who were trying to give themselves some sort of momentum to get back into the match. The Georgetown defense did just that, keeping Lindsey Wilson scoreless in the third quarter for the second time this year.
It was nothing to be worried about because D’Mauriae VanCleave got his name on the score sheet four minutes into the fourth quarter after a 26-yard pass from Dukes found the receiver in open space to make it 28-0.
Logan Collier recorded his second touchdown of the season later in the quarter after an impressive leap over his defender to reach the pass from Dukes and haul it into the endzone for the eventual 35-0 winning score and remain perfect on the season.
Football continues their season next weekend with a trip to Pikeville (Ky.) on October 23rd. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. CT.
