Campbellsville University’s Theater Department and Town Hall Productions will perform the play “Almost, Maine” in the Russ Mobley Theater on CU’s campus, under the direction of Starr Garrett, associate professor of theater and theater director.
The play is set in a small fictional town of Almost, Maine. According to the online synopsis, it’s about “a town that’s so far north, it’s almost not in the United States—it’s almost in Canada. And it almost doesn’t exist. Because its residents never got around to getting organized. So it’s just…Almost.”
The performance consists of nine vignettes, wherein each cast member plays multiple roles. The play unfolds with nine different story lines and love stories. Nathan Cahall of Danville, Ky.; Sarah Durham of Campbellsville, Ky.; Matthew Hutchins of Springfield, Ky.; Ye-Ji Lee of Korea; Hollie Nall of Elizabethtown, Ky.; Bryan Rule of Elk Horn, Ky., and Diandra Sallee of Nicholasville, Ky., each perform anywhere from two to five characters.
The website synopsis continues, “Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in the strangest ways.Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. Love is lost, found and confounded. And life for the people of Almost, Maine will never be the same.”
“I am excited. This is my first time playing a lead character in theater in America,” sophomore Ye-Ji Lee said about her experience and anticipation of the upcoming play.
