The Honorable Judge John Alexander handed down his decision Thursday afternoon in the case. Mike Burton was a former Glasgow Police Sgt. and was terminated from the department earlier this year. Burton appealed this termination because he felt that the city did not follow the guidelines provided in the Police Officers Bill of Rights.
Judge Alexander disagreed with Burton and his attorney and in his judgment wrote that “the hearing procedure was correct as conducted and complied with applicable law. The violations contained in the disciplinary action were supported by substantial evidence. Mayor Doty did not act arbitrarily in his decision to terminate Burton’s employment with the Glasgow Police Department””
Burton may appeal this decision.
