Christopher T. Browning, 45, of Louisville, plead guilty in June to two counts of theft by failure to make required disposition of property over $10,000, a Class C felony, and 12 counts of theft by failure to make required disposition of property over $500 but less than $10,000, Class D felony.
A judge sentenced Browning to eight years, probated for a period of five years. Additionally, Browning must pay restitution of $78,174.40 to the business he defrauded, Auto Smart, located in Louisville.
The plea resulted from an investigation guided by the Office of the Attorney General, which revealed that between May 7, 2015, and Sept. 1, 2015, in Jefferson County, the defendant and the business he was operating, DriveNow, failed to pay for at least 14 vehicles purchased from Auto Smart.
Under the agreement between the two businesses, the defendant was responsible for paying Auto Smart for the vehicles within 30-days, or as soon as they were sold. Yet, once Browning sold the vehicles, he failed to pay Auto Smart.
