Adair Band fans will get the first glimpse of the 2016 show tomorrow at Mark Twain, the band’s annual debut exhibition. Last year’s state and national champions are looking to replicate its success from 2015, and the first step starts with Mark Twain.
“It’ll be our first time performing in front of judges, and even though it isn’t scored, they’ll provide us with some valuable feedback and give the new members a taste of what competition will be like,” explains director Tom Case. “It’s a great opportunity.”
As usual, expectations for the band are sky high this year, but Case believes his squad is up for the task. “I like where we are right now,” Case says. “We’re asking a lot, and we demand a lot. I think we’re comparable to where we were last year. We won’t be fantastic this early, but I think we can be really good by the end [of the season].”
The exhibition starts at 3 p.m., with 16 performances scheduled before Adair County takes the field at 8 and the Lindsey Wilson marching band closes things down at 8:15.
“We’re really excited about the upcoming season,” Case says. “We want to thank everyone in the community for their great support. We’d love for everyone to come out tomorrow and check out some great bands—we hope to see you there.”
