Teresa Owens, 51, had pleaded guilty in April to three charges connected to the incident: Tampering with Physical Evidence, Knowingly Attempting to Obtain a Controlled Substance and Abuse of a Corpse.
Pulaski Circuit Judge Jeffery Burdette accepted the plea agreement, sentencing Owens to 12 months in jail for Abuse of a Corpse and four years each for the other two charges, to run concurrently for a total of four years.
Burdette noted that the case came from Owens’ attempt to secrete the body of Gary Ray Jenks after Jenks had dies, but that Owens herself did not appear to have any involvement in his death.
The charges stemmed from the September 29th discovery of the body of 68 year old Jenks inside a freezer in the home the couple shared on Happy Ridge Road.
An autopsy stated that Jenks had no obvious wounds, but he had suffered from cardiovascular disease.
Owens said she found Jenks dead on September 5th from an apparent stroke and that she had panicked and didn’t know what to do.
