Trooper Jason Warinner is investigating a two vehicle fatal collision that occurred on Sunday afternoon at approximately 1:22 PM CST, four miles west of Burkesville on HWY 90. Preliminary investigations indicate that 41 year old Susan Harper, along with 42 year old passenger Joseph Curry, both of Edmonton, were travelling east bound on KY HWY 90 in a 1995 GEO Tracker. Harper’s vehicle struck rumble strips on the right shoulder of the roadway causing her to overcorrect and cross the west bound lane into the path of a 2011 Chevy Pickup truck operated by 30 year old Robert Hostetler of Burkesville. Curry was pronounced deceased on at the scene by the Cumberland County Coroner. Harper was transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased by the Fayette County Coroner. Hostetler was not injured in the collision. All parties were wearing seat belts. Tpr. Warinner was assisted at the scene by Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Burkesville Police department and Cumberland County Fire and EMS.

During the month of July 2019, there were 20 traffic accidents investigated by the State Police working in the Post 15 area in the 11 counties of Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, Marion, Metcalfe, Monroe, Russell, Taylor and Washington.
There were two fatal collisions during the month of July in the Post 15 area. Brad Maddox, age 44 of Green Co KY was killed on 07/01/19 in Green Co KY. Leslie B. Thrasher, age 79 of Cumberland Co KY was killed on 07/24/19 in Cumberland Co KY. This brings our yearly fatality count to 12 compared with 15 through this same period in 2018. Statewide fatality count stands at 410 compared with 403 through this same period in 2018. During the month of July 2019, there were 1081 citations written, 301 courtesy notices written, 1778 vehicles inspected, 599 complaints answered, 78 motorists assisted, 55 criminal cases opened and 211 criminal arrests made. Trooper Dexter Colvin is investigating a collision that occurred on August 4th, at approximately 12:20 PM EST, on Mackville RD, 5 miles east of Springfield. Alyssa Baker, age 21 of Mackville, was operating a 2008 silver Nissan passenger car westbound on Mackville Road when she entered a curve, ran off the right shoulder of the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned several times. Baker was belted and transported by EMS to SpringView Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Trooper Colvin was assisted at the scene by Washington fire, EMS and rescue.
The Kentucky Cattlemen’s Foundation awarded the Green River Animal Shelter with a $1000 grant from the Animal Shelter Assistance program on Tuesday.
The Animal Shelter Assistance program is in its ninth year and was funded by the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Foundation. Foundation Chairman, Mike Bach recognizes the important role animal shelters serve in our communities and encourages everyone to get involved at the local level. Donations to national organizations do not go back and directly benefit these animals. “Find out who your local shelter is and how you can help” stated Bach, “All cattlemen understand the need to take care of our animals and it is nice to support others who are doing the same thing.” The Green River Animal Shelter plans on using this grant to repair doors and drywall. “This will really help with the repairs that need to be done to our building,” said Roger Firkins, Green River Animal Shelter. If you would like to make a donation to the Green River Animal Shelter, please call (270) 385-9655. They are always in need of cleaning supplies, and any support from the community. The Animal Shelter Assistance program received 21 applications from across the state and plans to continue the program in the future. “I want to thank the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association as well as the Adair County’s local Cattlemen’s Association for the help in obtaining the $1,000 grant for the Animal Shelter. There are several repairs that need to be done at the shelter and this will help out with those. An apparent homicide – suicide incident is being investigated by the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office. According to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office a call was received around 6:30 P.M. ET Saturday evening, August 3rd, stating that a female was lying on the ground next to a white vehicle on Lyle Road in Taylor county. Upon arrival sheriff’s deputies found 42 year old Jennifer Bennett of Campbellsville dead at the scene with a single gunshot wound. The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office also says 42 year old Anthony Underwood of Hodgenville was found at the scene with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Underwood was flown from the scene to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where he was pronounced dead by the Fayette County Coroner. The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating.

According to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, a call was received around 7 P.M. ET in reference to a male subject at the Lucky Vista Motel who had a laceration to the neck area. Before arriving on the scene officers were advised that the alleged perpetrator was seen walking down a near-by street in Campbellsville which led to contact with 32 year old Timothy Davis of Campbellsville who was arrested on Gowdy Street in Campbellsville and charged with assault in the 1st degree. He was lodged in the Taylor County Detention Center.
Story courtesy of myq104.com Metcalfe County Sheriff Ricky Brooks has died. Brooks passed away Saturday, August 3rd, after a battle with cancer. He was 40 years old. Prior to serving as sheriff in Metcalfe County he was employed by Kentucky State Police and also served in the U.S. Army. Brooks was elected sheriff in Metcalfe County in November of 2018 replacing Rondal Shirley who had been sheriff in Metcalfe County for the past 20 years. Funeral services for Ricky Brooks will be held Tuesday, August 6th, at 2 P.M. CT at the Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton. Visitation from 2 P.M. to 8 P.M. CT Monday, August 5th, and after 9 A.M. CT Tuesday, August 6th, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Asbury-Center Cemetery. Lindsey Wilson football is a co-favorite to capture the Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division in 2019 according to the MSC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, conference officials announced on Friday.
The Blue Raiders received 42 total voting points from the head coaches within the Bluegrass Division, including two of the eight first-place votes. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team. Lindsey Wilson is tied atop the preseason poll with Bluegrass newcomer Cumberlands (Ky.). The Patriots also received 42 voting points and a pair of first-place votes. In addition to Cumberlands, Pikeville (Ky.) moves from the Appalachian Division to the Bluegrass and Mid-South Conference newcomer Thomas More (Ky.) helps to form perhaps the toughest division in NAIA football from top-to-bottom. Lindsey Wilson is coming off a 7-3 season, including posting a 4-2 mark in the Bluegrass. Cumberlands finished second in the Appalachian last season, posting a 10-2 overall record and a 5-1 mark within its division.
