On March 27th, 2022, Adair County Sheriff Josh Brockman initiated an investigation into a theft of a Honda ATV four wheeler, taken from a residence in the Millerfield community of the county.
On Wednesday, May 11th, 2022, Sheriff Brockman obtained a warrant for the arrest of Howard Grigsby, 43, of Adair County, in connection with the ATV, after the investigation led him to recovery the property in the Glensfork community. Grigsby was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail on felony charges of Receiving/Possessing Stolen Property (Over $500, less then $10,000). The ATV was returned back to the owner. The investigation is still ongoing, with more arrests pending. Assisting in the investigation was Deputy Derek Padgett and Officer Justin Cross. (Sheriff Josh Brockman Adair County Sheriff’s Office) On 5-11-2022 at 11:30 a.m. Adair County Sheriff’s Office along with Columbia Police Department received multiple complaints of a male living under the Campbellsville Street bridge. Complaints ranged from erratic behavior to yelling at people on kayaks.
Upon searching the area Sheriff Brockman located Jessi Cross, 45, underneath the bridge. Cross had a machete in his hand and was ordered to drop it. He was then ordered out from under the bridge in which he complied. He was arrested by Brockman on felony charges of Not being in compliance with KY Sex Offender Registration 2nd offense and violation of offender registry by living within a 1,000ft of a school (Lake Cumberland Head Start.) He was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail, the Sheriff’s office is continuing investigation. Sheriff Brockman was assisted on scene by Chief JR Murphy of CPD along with additional Deputies and CPD officers. There has been a multiple vehicle collision with injury on Campbellsville Road near Sandusky Steele. Traffic is currently at a stand still. Avoid the area this morning and plan alternate routes accordingly.
The Columbia Police Department responded to a hit and run on Burksville Street, May 11th, after an operator of a gold Buick struck a school bus and fled the scene. Officers were able to identify operator and located subject near his residence on Westwood Drive, less than a mile from the collision. After locating and establishing contact, subject attempted to conceal a small bag believed to contain methamphetamine before being taken into custody. Christopher Furkins, 27, of Columbia has been charged with numerous traffic violations as well as DUI 1st aggravated circumstances, criminal mischief 2nd, tampering with physical evidence, possession of methamphetamine, leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid, and 26 counts of wanton endangerment totaling 28 felony charges altogether. Calls for service 551 Citations 95 Motorist assists 8 Escorts 6 Accidents investigated 26 Injury accidents 4 Incident reports 8 Criminal cases opened 20 On Friday afternoon May 6, School Resource Officers from The Columbia Police Department were alerted by staff at Adair County School Board’s central office that a male subject who had been trespassed from school property previously on Monday, May 2, was walking on Greensburg Street in front of the central office and Adair County Middle School.
An Officer drove to school intersection and Greensburg Street to see if subject had came onto the property. Male after seeing Police Cruiser continued to walk on Greensburg Street passed Indian Drive. During this time, Officer moved out of view from Greensburg Street and within minutes received another call the party had turned around and was now walking on school property towards the high school. Officers stopped male who was still walking near gate on Indian Drive and took him into custody without incident. Paul Abrell, 42, of Columbia has been charged with criminal trespassing 3rd degree, public intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia. Officer Adam Cravens was the arresting Officer. He was assisted on scene by Officer John Harris. Russell County Sheriff Derek Polston reports a Drug Trafficking Round-Up along with Russell County’s Most Wanted on Warrants, started yesterday (Tuesday, May 3, 2022) around 9:00amCT. The roundup named “SPRING CLEANING” involved the Russell County Sheriffs Office, the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, the County Attorney’s Office, KY State Police Drug Unit Desi West, the Russell Springs Police Dept., and the Jamestown Police Dept. Numerous drug trafficking investigations by the RCSO over the last several months resulted in the following arrests and others on outstanding warrants wanted by the County Attorney’s office and Law Enforcement.
The roundup is ongoing and more arrests are forthcoming. Deputies Corey Meyer and Ron Golden are investigating. Nunn Parkway near Columbia on Tuesday around 2:44 p.m. CT.
Preliminary investigation indicates a 2011 GMC being operated by 41-year-old Daniel Lloyd of Glasgow, was stopped on the right emergency lane traveling East on the Louie B. Nunn Parkway. Lloyd attempted to turn from the emergency lane into the U-turn when he pulled into the path of a 2005 Freightliner being operated by 36-year-old Bengie Fletcher of Edmonton causing the GMC to overturn ejecting two of the occupants. Fletcher’s vehicle continued off the roadway over an embankment coming to rest in a creek. Daniel Lloyd, 33-year-old Kasey Cook of Glasgow, 29-year-old, Anthony Garcia of Smith Grove and 26-year-old Lucas Wilson of Edmonton were all transported to T.J. Health Columbia with serious injuries. Bengie Fletcher was transported to T.J. Samson Hospital in Glasgow with serious injuries. Officer Casey Tooley investigated the collision, and was assisted by the members of Kentucky State Police, Adair County Sheriff’s Office, Columbia City Police, Adair County EMS, Breeding Fire Department, Kentucky Department of Transportation, Kentucky Division of Environmental Protection. (Sergeant Jason Morris – Kentucky State Police) On Monday, May 2nd, 2022 at 4:30pm, Adair 911 received a call of a physical altercation on Flatwoods Road, approximately 13 miles north of Columbia.
Upon arrival of the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, it was found that Paul Stuchell, 52 of Adair, had assaulted another male with a wood stick. The victim had been struck multiple times, including in the head. The victim was transported to TJ Health Columbia for treatment of injuries sustained. Stuchell was arrested on Assault charges (2nd Degree) and lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail. Deputy Kenny Perkins is investigating the incident.
