RIBBON CUTTING -SATURDAY – MAY 28 – 9:00 AM
TO CELEBRATE SQUARE MEALS CAFÉ SATURDAYS DURING FARMERS MARKET ON THE SQUARE As a teacher one of your main goals and biggest feelings of accomplishment. Is when you provide your students with an opportunity to use what you have taught them in a practical application or real world connection. It is always in the back of our mind. We are thinking how could I allow my students to see and understand how this can help them or others in the future. Well between Adair County Middle School Principal, Alma Rich, and Adair County High School Welding Instructor, Barney Taylor just such a brainstorm occurred. Mrs. Rich had been made aware of the needs of individuals who pick up their children at ACMS. The steps going down into the Gym had no railing, down the middle, which made for rough navigation for grandparents or parents with small children. I personally never remember their being one, and come to think about it, when I have had high hills on, I always gravitated to the far left or right to hold on to something. Then the light bulb went off! What better way to help teach students practical usage of their skills and add leadership by helping ones community then to contact Barney Taylor and see what his input about the situation might be. Would it be possible for his students to create a railing, what that within their skills set, did they have time, and did Mr. Taylor feel it would be helpful to his students? Well low and behold, it was a perfect real world application for Mr. Taylor’s welding students. Not only could they make the railing but they could install it. He jumped right on board, and was excited that his students would have a real world practical application to connect all the dots from learning their skills to using their skills. Mr. Taylor asked Josh Grant, Trevor Willis, and Brett Burton all senior welding students to complete the task. And of course anyone who knows this group of young men, know they jumped on it, and took pride in their job. They end result as you can see is wonderful and the it was without question a Win-Win situation for all involved. Shamarie Harper Adair County Schools Media - PR /Technology Resourse Teacher /Migrant Recruiter Jennifer Carter, Adair County High School Health Career Teacher, and Sheila Willis, Adair County High School Science Teacher, saw a chance to collaborate and provide students with a hands-on practical application activity today in the form of a AP Bio Circularity System Lab. Mrs. Willis has been working on the Circulatory System with her AP Biology class. She wanted to do a Lab that would demonstrate the changes in blood pressure while laying and then sitting immediately after. Demonstrating to her students how the blood flows within your body and how it affects you. What better way to get your blood pressure checked than by knowledgeable Health Career Students – NONE! So, Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Willis worked to bring their students together. Mrs. Carters students were matched up with a AP Biology student and they worked the Lab together. The AP students gathered data and conducted their experiments while the Health Career students took accurate blood pressures for the data collection. WIN – WIN everyone had a class period with hands on learning and using their knowledge to perform a practical real world application of their skills. Way to go, again, ACHS!
GOP presumptive nominee Donald Trump will address the convention Friday afternoon in Freedom Hall. Attendees we talked to were largely behind Trump but want to hear more on his gun and foreign policies.
Trump won't have a completely sympathetic audience as one man said he was Marco Rubio supporter but would "vote for the devil himself if he was a Republican" if the choice if between Trump and Hillary Clinton. The main attraction is the exhibit hall with all the major gun manufacturers represents a display that most attendees plan to swing through. As for the perception of the NRA, convention goer says the group gets a bad rap and is truly a group of law abiding citizens. Today the Adair County High School Seniors treated themselves and staff members at the high school with lunch consisting of pizza, brownies, and a bottled drink. This group of students are truly a special bunch of young people. They will be missed. Today shows just how kind they are with each other and staff. We are very proud of this group and hope you enjoy a few shots from their lunch today.
