Tpr. Clint Bale in investigating a collision that occurred Saturday at 10:58 AM, 8 miles west of Columbia on KY 80. 38-year-old David Murphy, of Columbia, was operating an eastbound 1999 Toyota, when he lost control, crossed the roadway multiple times before overturning in the westbound ditch-line. Murphy was belted and not injured but was arrested for DUI and Failure to Produce Insurance Card. A passenger, 4-year-old Kyndal Murphy, who was in a child restraint device, was transported to Westlake Regional Hospital.

18-year-old Tyler Graves, of Tompkinsville, was arrested Friday, May 1, 2015 at approximately 11:50 PM CST on KY 163, 3 miles north of Tompkinsville. Graves was operating a 2009 Nissan Pickup and was charged with Speeding, Failure to Wear Seatbelt, Failure to Produce Insurance Card, Possession of Open Alcohol Beverage in Motor Vehicle and DUI under 21. Graves was lodged in the Monroe County Detention Center. Tpr. Charles Hedgespeth is investigating.
45-year-old Christopher Brady was arrested on Friday, May 1, 2015 at approximately 6:16 PM EDT at the intersection of KY 412 and KY 289. Brady was operating a 1989 Plymouth and was charged with DUI 2nd, Possession of Open Alcohol Beverage Container in Motor Vehicle. Brady was lodged in the Marion County Detention Center. Tpr. Lincoln Lawless is investigating.
19-year-old Jared Polston, of Jamestown, was arrested Thursday, April 30 at 9:02 CST, 4 miles south of Russell Springs, on KY 379. Polston was charged with Speeding, Failure to Wear Seatbelt, Failure to Notify DOT of Address Change, Rear License Not Illuminated, Improper Equipment and DUI 1st Offense. He was lodged in the Russell County Jail. Tpr. Chase Willis is investigating.
40-year-old Domingo Ruis, of Russell Springs, was arrested on Friday, May 1, 2015 at approximately 5:15 PM CST on US 127, 3 miles north of Russell Springs. Ruis was charged with DUI 1st, No Operators - Moped License, License to be in Possession, Failure of Owner to Maintain Required Insurance, Failure to Produce Insurance Card and No Registration Receipt. Ruis was lodged in the Russell County Jail. Tpr. Chase Willis is investigating. 31-year-old George W. Estes, of Edmonton, was arrested Thursday, April 30th at approximately 5:30 PM CST in reference to an indictment warrant issued by the Metcalfe County Grand Jury. Estes was charged with Rape 2nd Degree, Sodomy 1st Degree - Victim < 12 years of age, Sexual Abuse 1st Degree and 4 counts of Use of a Minor (U/16) in a Sex Performance.
Estes was released to the Metcalfe County Transportation officer. Detective Bradly Stotts is investigating. On Tuesday, April 28, Post 15 was contacted by the Washington County Sheriff's office and asked to assist with a bomb threat that had been discovered at the North Washington Elementary School in Willisburg. A threat to "...blow up the school on April 30" was written on a bathroom stall in the boys restroom. Several students saw the threat Tuesday morning and reported it to the Principal's office.
The investigation led to the KSP Canine section performing an explosives search with 2 canine that found no indications of explosives in or around the building. KSP personnel along with local law enforcement and school officials have maintained an increased presence at the school since the initial report. Tpr. Logan Smith is investigating. With the KPREP right around the corner, 6th grade Science Teacher, Debra Waddell, has been coming up with creative ideas to not only keep her students focused at this time of the year, but also to reinforce core content. Her students have been working on Math questions by looking at statistical data collected from an experiment. They dropped pennies from a specific height, then recorded where they landed within several bulls eyes. The final step was plotting the information on a line plot, looking for gaps, clusters, skews and outliers! Not only were her students focused and reinforcing past lessons ….. they were having fun doing it! Kudos Mrs. Waddell!
Detectives from the Kentucky State Police, assisted by officers from the Campbellsville Police Department, seized over $2000.00 in currency and 11 gambling machines from the Rack n Cue Pool Room on Tuesday, April 28 at approximately 5:39 PM EDT. The pool room is located at 207 South Columbia Ave. in the limits of Campbellsville. Investigators were responding to an illegal gambling tip and developed information that led to the issuance of a search warrant. No arrests were made but the investigation is ongoing and charges are expected.
The long awaited Trial Run of the Columbia Adair Trail Town will take place Saturday, May 16, but is limited to the first 50 registered participants with a four-mile paddle on Russell Creek beginning at NAPA and ending at Pelham Branch. In order to participate in the trail run you must register including signing the waiver, must be 18 or older and must provide your own kayak or canoe, paddles and life vest.
There is a $10 registration fee that includes the official Paddle Adair T-shirt, decal, breakfast sandwich and drink at FM2 , and shuttle service for you and your kayak back to the put in area. A snack will also be provided at the take out. When you register, there is a choice of five put in times. Upon completing the paddle, a short survey is required that will make you eligible for the prize drawing of an Old Town Vapor kayak, Personal Flotation Device and paddle. There will also be on site registration that morning at the historic Adair County Courthouse beginning at 8:00 AM if we have not reached the 50 pre-registered participants but we cannot guarantee the T-shirt and decal with late registration. For registration form, like us on FB at Columbia Adair Trail Town, or pick yours up at the Adair County Public Library. Additional information is on the registration form. But hurry…registration time is limited. If you want to be part of making Columbia the next certified Kentucky Trail Town but don’t want to paddle, no problem. We are also in need of volunteers to help with getting boats in water, getting boats out of water, registering, etc. the day of the Trial Run. Volunteers will also receive the official Paddle Adair T-shirt. For more information, call the library at 270-384-2472. Congratulations to ACHS Future Business Leaders of America for their outstanding performance at KY FBLA State Leadership Conference in Louisville. The KY FBLA State Leadership Conference was held at the Galt House April 20-22 of this past week. ACHS had one team to place second; qualifying them for national competition. Andrew Grant add Noah Polston are the members of the Sports Entertainment Management team that placed and will attend Nationals in Chicago on June 29, 2015. Only first and second place qualify for national competition. Students competing at state were Mason Pyles, Noah Polston, Elijah Jackson, Daniel Corbin, Nathaniel Franklin, Andrew Grant, Leonardo Medina, Aaron Taylor, and Grant Cockerham. Also, FBLA students from Adair County High received numerous compliments from advisers and observers from the other counties of Kentucky…compliments on professional business attire and dignified behavior were frequent throughout our stay. Quote from Advise, Sammy Hughes: “This may be the most dignified and focused group of student that I have ever advised in my eighteen years of attending the KY State FBLA Leadership Conference.” The following students were not available for pictures: Leonardo Medina, Grant Cockerham, and Elijah Jackson.
