Born May 15, 1920 in Casey County, KY, he was the son of G.W. “Doc” Murphy and Lucy Jo Allen Murphy. He was the former owner/operator of Murphy’s Gas Station in Liberty, KY. He was a WWII Army veteran and member of the Walnut Hill Separate Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching the Cats and the Cards play basketball and an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. Mr. Murphy was the previous husband of Edith Edwards.
Survivors include a son, Roger (and Linda) Murphy of London; a daughter, Kay Means of Louisville; two step-daughters, Linda Richards and Jean Reeves; five grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Edwin Murphy of Liberty; and a sister, Helena McDonald of Liberty.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by five brothers, Fred, Kenneth, James, Claud, and Sherwood Murphy; and three sisters, Matie Decker, Irene Lay and Myrtle Harmon.
Funeral services are 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 18, 2015 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Clifton Cowan officiating. Burial will follow in the Murphy Cemetery with military honors by the Caswell-Saufley American Legion Post.
Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until funeral time at the funeral home.
