John Thomas “Tom” Clark, age 88 of Lebanon passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at the Village of Lebanon Nursing Home. He was born in Lebanon on May 28, 1934 to the late William Robert Clark and Lula Ester Harmon Clark. During his lifetime, Tom owned and exhibited Hackney harness ponies winning many ribbons at various horse shows, including the Kentucky State Fair. He enjoyed sports and cuisine, horse racing, Amtrack, visiting New Orleans and attending the Kentucky Sate Fair. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved family. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1952, Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky in 1956. Tom was a Kentucky Retired Educator after 30 years of service. He was also a mutual clerk at Churchill Downs, Keeneland, Turf Way Park and Ellis Park from 1946 until 2019. He was a member of Western Kentucky University Alumni Association, Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, Union Local 541 (SEIU) and Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. Tom attended Lebanon Baptist Church. Tom also served the country he loved until his honorable discharge from the United States Army. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Besides his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Lou Clark Loper, and Ann Clark Hatchett; and brothers, William Maurice Clark, and James Edward Clark.
Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Welborn Clark; step-daughter, Karen Welch Nichols; step-grandson, Ira Fayette Nichols; niece, Susan Clark Rixie- Fruitland; and nephews, Terry Lynn Loper, Billy Loper, Bobby Clark, and Jim-Ed Clark Jr.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M., Saturday, June 03, 2023 at Bosley Funeral Home. Interment will follow visitation in Ryder Cemetery.
