He was born January 18, 1941 in Nelson County. He was a former employee of General Electric Appliance Park in Louisville and was a Baptist by faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Carol Yates Potts, two sons, Richard and Joe Potts; one infant daughter, Linda Potts; his parents, John David Potts, Sr. and Catherine Irene Spencer Potts; three brothers, John, Billy and Rural Potts.
Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Humphrey of New Haven; three sons, James Othel Potts, Jr. and James E. “Buck” Potts (Melanie) all of New Haven and Michael Potts (Betty Kay) of New Hope; one sister, Barbara Ann Gibson of Munfordville; 13 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Friday, April 1, 2016 at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto. Bro. Philip Drake will officiate. Interment will follow in Rolling Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in Boston.
Visitation is 3-8 PM Thursday at Mattingly Funeral Home.
