Isabelle Gruwell, age 87, of Somerset, KY., departed this life on Friday March 4, 2016 at Cumberland Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Isabelle was born on December 15, 1928, in Powhattan, KS., to the late Alice Ida Deweese and Herman Paul Wenger.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph Mason Gruwell, whom she married on March 26, 1945, four sons, Ralph E. Gruwell of Indianapolis, IN; Jim (and Deb) Gruwell of Winterset, IA; Roger (and Jackie) Gruwell of Des Moines, IA; and Melvin (and Shelly) Gruwell of Story City, IA; one daughter, Sharon Gruwell Ping and Marvin Ping of Somerset, KY; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Gruwell of Indianapolis, IN; one brother, Fred (and Velda) Wenger of Wheatland, IA; two sisters, Ruth (and Don) Kirkham of Oklahoma City, OK and Nancy (and Lonnie) Burdine of Brownsburg, IN. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Isabelle and her husband were married for nearly seventy one years. She was a caregiver and loved her family very much.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Oscar Kuffler and Dale Wenger and two grandsons, Mark Ping and Caleb Gruwell.
Visitation will be held on Sunday March 6, 2016 at 5:00 pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held on Monday March 7, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Brother Herman Hamilton officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial in Des Moines, IA.
