Dorothy D. New, age 83, of Somerset, KY, departed this life on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
Dorothy was born on January 11, 1933 in Somerset, KY to the late William H. and Alta Norfleet Cooper.
She attended Cotter Avenue Church of God for many years and later Heritage Hope Church of God. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, cooking and spending time with her family. Dorothy was a cook in the Somerset School System for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Johnnie J. New, whom she married on May 14, 1949 in Somerset, KY; two sons, Johnny L. (and Patsy) New of Ferguson and Robert J. New of Somerset; a brother, Charles Cooper of Somerset; two grandsons, Johnny L. (and Karen) New, Jr. and Joseph Frank (and Angie) New both of Somerset; and four great-grandchildren, Jared New, Jonathan New, Kobe New and Marina New; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Brent Cooper, Leamon Cooper and John Cooper; and two sisters, Lexie Thompson and Maggie Cooper.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 after 5:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Ronald Vernatter officiating. Burial will be at West Somerset Cemetery.
