He was born in Vanceburg, Kentucky on January 6, 1935, son of the late Henry and Myrtle Goodwin Hardy. He was a retired ATF Agent, Kentucky State Police Trooper, Korean War veteran, a private pilot and a farmer. He received a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Eastern Kentucky University. During his tenure with ATF, he guarded President Nixon and President Ford. As well, he received the Medal of Valor from the Kentucky State Police.
He is survived by three daughters, JoAnna Hardy & (Faron) Glover of Richmond, KY, LouAnn Hardy of Science Hill and Gail Hardy of Knoxville, TN, one sister, Wilma Mefford of Vanceburg, KY, two grandchildren, Whitney & (Dr. Matthew) Truscello of Hendersonville, TN and Logan Reed Hardy Woodring of Richmond, KY and one great-grandchild, Piper Rose.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rose Mary "Rosie" Rowe Hardy, whom he married on July 3, 1958 and who died on September 8, 2007.
Visitation will be from 2 PM to 4 PM Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with burial to follow in Science Hill Cemetery.
