According to the Commonwealth Journal in Somerset…Whitney N. Denney, 33, and Katherina Rose Chapman, 20, were lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center on charges of first-degree Trafficking in a Controlled Substance (more than 2 grams of methamphetamine) and first-offense Trafficking in Marijuana (less than 8 ounces).
During the traffic stop Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office K-9 units alerted their handlers, Deputy Tim Pierce and Sergeant Richard Smith, to the possible presence of illegal substances. The ensuing search produced a bag containing 2.26 pounds of a white crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine, and a bag containing 2.5 ounces of suspected marijuana, which were found in the trunk. Denney also had $1,000 in cash on her person.
In addition to the trafficking counts, Denney was charged with speeding, operating on a suspended / revoked license, and carrying a concealed weapon (brass knuckles).
Chapman was a passenger in the vehicle and allegedly failed a sobriety test. She was charged with public intoxication from a controlled substance (excludes alcohol) in addition to the trafficking counts, according to the citation.
The investigation is continuing by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department.
